Well my friend just called me up & said he forgot his password on boot & doesnt know what to do now. I know how to do it with Desktops but how do you reset the password on a Dell Laptop?

You don't...easily. Best bet is to call dell. Its a much more secure mechanism on a laptop than on a desktop, for obvious reasons.

Well he got the laptop off some guy & he cant get a hold of him. Should he still call Dell or just is there a way he can do it by him self?

I work for Dell, is it a windows password, a bios password or a hard drive password?

BTW If it a Lat C or D you cant pull the battery.

Bios.

He is screwed.

We need some of the number off the screen for the password to put in a password generator, and there will drill him for info about ownership.

Get the service tag#, the express service code and all the numbers and symbols off the password screen to me and I will call one of my friends at work and see what I can do.

If its marked as being ripped off he is out of luck, and a Dick.

Well I guess your lack of a reply means your friend is a dick and ripped off the system.

SCREWED! On IBM ThinkPads, there is a separate chip that contains the PW and it doesn't require power to maintain the PW. According to IBM, the only way to fix it is to replace the mobo.
