I just received my Dell i9300 and I have a question regarding the Charge Indicator Lights on the battery. When does the indicators light up?

Assuming the 9300 functions like every other laptop in the world, the charge light goes on when the battery is charging.

The charging device in the laptop reads the voltage of the battery, which with lithium based batteries is very indicative of the state of charge. When the voltage dips below a certain point, current is sent to the battery, charging it. The charge ligth goes on whenever the current is flowing to the battery. As soon as the battery reaches a full charge, the current is cut off, and the charge light dies.

There's a big long explanation of laptop batteries in the "question about laptop batteries" topic.

Are you talking about the lights ON the battery? The circle with the picture of a battery inside it is a button. Press the button and the lights will light up according to how much the battery is charged. I actually was confused about this when I got mine... the button was kinda hard to press.

Ahh ok thank you for your reply. Looks like my battery shipped fully charged (I thought it'd be half-charged or something) thus there were no lights when I plugged in the AC adaptor. I thought I had a defective battery or something. Again, thank you for your reply. :)

EDIT:

Well, there is a charge light on the laptop that indicates when the battery is being charged. But there is also an indicator on the battery that tells you an approximate percentage of how much it is charged.
