Dell Inspiron 8500, how can i make this go faster?

my dell inspiron 8500 takes about 10-15 minutes from boot to winXP...

recently, when i start my notebook, i get about 50 dings and dings and ding dings...
have no idea what is going on...

when i look at my task manager, it keeps growing... (now is at 60+)
i guess this is all the applications my pc is running...

i do have a lot of fonts installed... does this make my system slow?

10-15 min!?!? man i dont know but that seems like a really really long time to me. scan for adware/spyware/virus, get rid of any startup programs you dont need. or you could just format and fresh install.

got all my adware and spyware out... i think...
i had over 60 adware/spyware !!!

still running over 60 apps on the task manager... so frustrated, i actually counted it.

also, all the dings! oy! all them dings!!!

the dings could be anything, i dont have enough info to know. you really need to cut down on the startup apps, that's probably a good bet on what is slowing you down. what adware/spyware cleaners did you use? i recommend ad-aware and spybot search and destroy. use both of them. also use CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) both for cleaning caches etc and for the resgistry issues scan.

yeah really, this whole thing might be more hassle than its worth. if you can back up anything that you really need easily i really do recommend format and fresh install, if not, go with what i said before

what will fresh install involve.
already began backup...

do not have copy of Win XP Pro,...
do i need to re-format and start from scratch?
do i need to get all drivers stored somewhere?

You definately didn't get all the spyware out of the machine, it sounds like you are loaded. When too much spyware/adware in machine it will never work totally correct afterwards, even if you did get all the junk out (which you didn't I don't think).

The only way to really remedy your problem is to do a clean install of XP and you should be ok then. You should go out and buy your own legal copy of XP, you shouldn't need too many drivers, if you do, you can get them after the install off the internet.

recenty took my other PC to one of those neighborhood shops...
he said that he can install WinXP w/o disk as long as i have the sticker that came with winXP.

true?
where can i do it w/o buying another copy of winXP?

yeah, if you have the sticker just install whatever you're licensed for (ie borrow the disk from a friend or something) and use the key that you have when you have to put in registration info and activate, and all is well.

what else can i do to make my 8500 faster, stronger... better...

Dell Inspiron 8500
Mobile Pentium 4 M 2.6 GHz
512 MB RAM

WinXP Pro Svce Pk 2

dude, seriously, just format and fresh install, you need it, it would be so much easier

Yep he is right. Clean install of XP and maybe think about adding another 512 of memory and then that machine will be better then new.
