dell inspiron 6400/e1505 problem

A buddy of mine sold me this laptop dirt cheap because he upgraded to a much faster laptop. He told me there was something wrong with it and didnt remember so i did some testing. The charger he gave me does not work , i tried a similar dell (e1705) charger and no charger indication / led lights appearing.I used a buddies battery and the machine starts no problem.I went to best buy to ask aid from a friend who works there , he tried several dell chargers at 90w(my charger that does not work is 65w) and nada EXCEPT one charger cause a red led to appear on the battery icon , and then nothing. So is it safe to assume that the powerplug needs replacing or should i buy a charger from ebay? Just how expensive is it to replace a power plug? Is it worth it?(i hope)

Yes it sounds like a broke power connector on the laptop. Its very rare for the power bricks to go bad unless they have taken a lightning strike. You'll have to have the unit sent off and get the connector resoldered. Its one of the most common failyers on laptops.

call around to your local shops and find out. you will pay most for taking it apart and putting it back together. if i remember right i was quoted about 125 or so for the same thing different laptop.

Actually, IF its fixable most places charge about 150. However, many of them are mounted right on the mobo and are impossible to solder back on or replace.
Make sure the place you take it to won't charge you a large 'diagnostic' fee to tell you that you need a new mobo and its not worth fixing.
