Looking for utility to turn ON/OFF Inspiron 5000 fan.

I am using 3-years old Inspiron 5000 and suddenly ran into the problem:
I have one special 16bit application running with CPU usage 45-65%
Must use this program, have no chioce.

Laptop gets really hot but fan controlled by BIOS turns on when it is too late.

Just lost keyboard - thin film printed type lost some lines.
Keyboard right above CPU heat spreader.
2 days earlier lost connection in LCD ribbon cable...
New stuff is on the way, but it may be damaged soon too.

I did not run this program for over 2 years, but remeber I lost battery last time I used it.

So I am looking for utility or any other suggestion to adjust fan ON/OFF temperature to turn it on earlier or just keep fan on always when this program is running.

I am using WinXP Pro SP1.

Ornery found THIS SITE for me, but this program does not run on I5000.

Any ideas?
Thanks

How about going low tech and hard wiring the fan? You could put a switch in there that toggles from normal operation to always on.

I keep seeing Linux users fighting this same problem. Would one of their solutions work, or is it not worth even checking those out?

Speedfan does not dectect my fans as well as CPU
If I enable Dell checkbox, itt crashes the system exact same way as 8x00 fan control.

It seems a little strange, I have ACPI fan listed twice in my device manager, but only one fan present.
Maybe they just detect chip with 2 channels?
Should I delete both and search for a hardware?

Just a short update:

I put CPU to 50% load and checked temp. I went up to 60C (140F) and fan was not on.
Heat spreader was really hot, almost can't touch. I did not want to damage it, so turned laptop off.

I heard fan coming on/off before, but don't know the temp it turns on.
In any case 140F is too late.

Normally CPU stays at 115-120F and I would say 120 should be fan ON point.
May be sensor is bad?

Any other programs or ideas?

fan.exe does not work at all, checked DOS, Windows XP, WinXP with Win95,98 emulation.

fanon.com works if I boot to DOS. Can't get it to work in WinXP.
