I was checking this out, but after doing some reading I noticed the weight.

Does it really weigh in at 7lbs?

Sorry to ask again, but does anybody know how long after an order is placed does Dell ship a laptop?

It varies but on average I would say from order to delivery of laptop is 10 -14 days.

Of course if they run out of your 6 cell battery, DVD Burner, etc. that will delay your laptop.

I have ordered 2 laptops from Dell and both were shipped within 24 hours.

Delivered in a couple days.

This is a great deal.

I'm seeing a little difference in the specs now (if it matters). Still a good deal.

screen not glossy
battery 4-cell, not 6

They're probably running out of parts. The original deal was 80gb 9-cell, then down to 60gb 6-cell, no down to a 4-cell. That's gonna be like 1.5-2hrs of juice.

The $549 "Smart Value" is the original deal.

Looks pretty Linux friendly also: Link

That is barely relevant since you can't configure it without an OS.

So stupid how they force Windows on you

My point was that you could wipe Windows off and add Ubuntu. That is my plan, and this guy's blog helps through some of the troubles right off the bat.

Mine arrived Tuesday, 5 days after I placed my order, with the free shipping. Looks great and runs fast.

i registered on AAA's site and got the coupon code, but Dell doesn't seem to accept it and doesn't specify the reason.

i guess if i were really into this, i'd call them and find out what was going on.
