I just purchased dell inspiron 1100. It came with preinstalled win xp home. But I wanted w2k so I formated the c drive and installed w2k. When installation is done and booted, it asks me to choose between xp and w2k. I formated the whole thing!! There shouldn't be XP in my laptop!!! but it still asks me to choose. When I choose XP, it gives me error. I formatted several times and still same...it will ask me to choose when there is no xp. PLease help~

oh ya...and when I delete all the partition there is still a partition of 8mb...when i try to delete it, it says that partition contains information about w2k so I can't delete it...is it normal?

Looks to me like your format didn't get rid of some information. If you want to start from scratch, you could use a boot disk (Win98, Win95, DOS) that includes fdisk.exe and format.com and then fdisk the drive, removing all partitions, basically starting from scratch. You can then format it and when you install Win2000 you can install on a partition any size you want and ust NTFS, if you so desire. Probably a neat idea to have more than one partition!!

I think you should be able to completely format the drive using the Windows 2000 CD and then create a partition on it on which to install Windows 2000. Then I would create at least one additional partition for your apps and data. Personally, I'd have at least two other partitions, one for data and the other for applications. I have LOTS of partitions! If you can't reformat the entire drive using the Windows 2000 CD, you could do it with a bootable CD that contains the fdisk.exe and Format.com files. But I don't think it's necessary to do that.
