I used a $30 coupon from gotapex and ordered this LCD.

It will save my eyes from the Sony 15sf I'm using.
Anyone remember those?

As much as this looked like a good deal, I purchased a Dell 1800FP last night. Came out to $475 shipped to California :p Yay. Isn't the 1800FP arguably superior? (I'm really not thread crapping here... honest.)

Dunno, :)

I'll let you know when I stop cancelling my orders to get another 30 off, no 40 off, no . . . wait wait . . . . .:) Freakin Dell!

Ah screw it - $482 is good enough for me!

The 1800FP has a 30ms response time. The Planar's is 16ms. I don't know how much of a difference 30ms and 16ms makes in terms of gaming. I'm actually looking at a 1800FP right now, and it looks pretty darn good to me. And I got it for $426.xx shipped a couple of weeks ago so I can't complain! Anyhow, I wouldn't say the 1800FP is superior than the Planar... it is certainly larger and comes with Dell's wonderful warranty though.

No ghosting my 1800FP...dont know what your brother is running - but i have no problems...

1800FP
9700 Pro
2400XP on Asus A7V8X
512 XMS 3200

Personally - just picked up the PL150 for 240 (20 off 200, plus 10%) shipped from this dell deal...it was the better deal...

Wait for the 1800FP deal again - I know I am going to get another one when the price drops

I just received my Planar PX171M earlier today and I have been playing Quake 3 and Unreal Tourn. 2003 for a couple of hours - NO NOTICEABLE GHOSTING or at least it's very hard to notice it. It looks very smooth actually in those 2 games I have tried. I also own the Dell 1900FP (Samsung 191T) which has 25ms; there is noticeable ghosting/lag! 9ms less makes a noticeable difference. However, 2D doesn't look as good as the Dell 1900FP. The color is a bit off but overall, I'm satisfied with this monitor. I will be using it until they release a 20" wide aspect LCD monitor with the same 16ms or lower response time.

Enjoy your PX171M everyone!

I have ran CS, Battlefield 1942, and other games and there are noticeable ghosting.

Again, I am a hardcore gamer, so I play aggressively, meaning I move the screen quickly.

I am not alone, as my friends have noticed the same thing on their 1800FPs.

BTW, 1800FP has 30ms I believe instead of 25ms like others. I remember seeing this on dell specification comparison among theor LCDs.

Maybe this is a good excuse for me to stop playing games and start studying more :)

Well - No one is more aggressive than me...That is I "move fast" - I am a translocate-a-holic-circle-strafe machine...I put the LCD through its paces at a LAN party last saturday and everyone was impressed...I had 2 guys behind me the whole time - None of us saw any ghosting...and I have the gaming rig from hell...
My best friend has a similar configured machine with matching LCD - neither of have ghosting problems...Even with some of the older games, quake, quake 2...

If there was a ghost it was casper and he wasnt in my box...

Damn - I should not have told you guys about this - my order got backordered!

Interestingly I bet Dell shipped the goods in reducing discount sequence - the more coupons you use the less likely you are to get your goods!

Anyone else also exasperated by their unmovable order system?

1) They cannot add coupon codes to existing orders
2) they cannot amend equivalent items (i.e. swap a black monitor (in stock) for a silver monitor (backorder) and maintain the same price on the same order.
3) their customer service menu system is so useless - 75% of the time I get to blind links - i.e. no number associated, or long delays, or passed to other support numbers, or moronic CSRs who don't care, or . . . . grrrr sheesh :(

"Dell, you're getting a coronary" or Dude, you're in for crap customer service" would be better catchphrases!

<Click! End of moan ;)>

I keep saying I'll never order from Dell again, but those damned coupons always seem to entice me. When will I learn!?

Anyone else get theirs yet?

It just shows that the term ghosting varies from people to people :)

Thats nice that you dont notice any though :)
