what specs...? i don't see a thing about frequency range, s/n ratio, thd, nothing... it's like they're just saying "here. buy this. it's good."

I am pretty sure it should do anything since it's your computer that does the decoding. Does anynoe know the answer to this?

Sygyzy,
I don't think the PC does the decoding? I believe that it uses the network
to stream the data and it decodes the files itself?

Not 100% sure though?

Besides the remote, somebody tell me what this thing does over a $3 AV/Cable and a $1 mini plug adapter hooked from my PC to my Reciever.

What about file structure?
Lots of players and MP3 gizmos need a certain file structure to be used when you play them.
How much bandwidth would this take off a home LAN do you think?

I think it doesn't matter the file structure, since the files reside on your PC. It uses Music Match Software, which is one of the best.

then what the hell's the point..? what benefit does this thing give me over an rca cable connected from my DAL soundcard to my receiver's input...? a higher cc bill...? more bandwidth drained off my network...? another item occupying space on my powerstrip...? i don't get it...

I think the major benefit I would get is the fact I could have music in my basement. It also has a nice LCD display and a no-brainer interface. This thing would be sweet for having parties. You could DJ with the remote.
Who wants to go upstairs and open up windows explorer everytime you want to change songs.

Saw this reviewed on ZDTV last summer. There are going to be several hitting the market soon, so watch for the price to drop quickly as the wind blows out of MP3's sails. This is getting crazy, MP'3 players in watches, digital cameras, coffee pots. Whats next? MP3 Vibrator from Adam and Eve?

Anyway, looks like a nice player, especially if it were in the $100-150 range.

Mav,
Yes I agree. This is way too much for this machine. I bet it will drop to 199.00 after Christmas. There will be about 4 more of these type machines being released during the holidays.
