Buhahahaha I know tons of people ordered the Inspiron 8100 but I'd rather spend a little more and get this mobile P4.

Don't forget 2% off with eBates.com

A little more? By the time I add dvd/cdrw and 64MB video I'm looking at $1800 with tax vs. $1150 for the 8100 deal last week.

Seems like a good deal, It appears dell is starting to put the new Nvidia geforce4 graphics cards in those babys...
I wonder how those compare to the Radeon 64's they were putting in them

I just ordered the 8100 today with a free 2nd battery and the free CDRW for ~$1600 including the 3 year warranty. I'd rather have the 1.2Ghz P3 then the 1.4Ghz P4 anyday. I also upgraded the CDRW from 8x to 16x for a little extra. You could drop the speed down to 1Ghz and save ~$150 as well. Either way, they are pretty good deals, I cancelled the order I placed yesterday that had the double ram and hard drive upgrade, this was far better deal.

<EDIT>
I also got the 64MB ATI card with it- that added another $99 to the total.

the inspiron 2650's also offer the mobile p4. they start at 1.4 instead of the 1.0 ghz the 8100's have. much better uprgade IMHO

I am thinking of ordering one of these bad boys.. for 79 bux more I Can get a Gefroce4 440 32meg DDR, minus the 100bux and I have a P4 1.4, 845Mobile chipset, DDR RAM and a 15" UXGA screen!!

Your smoking some heavy stuff if you would rather have a PIII on a .18micron wafer runing PC133 ram over a P4 NORTHWOOD .13mircon runnning DDR ram with the 845 chipset which just about doubles if not triples the bandwidth of the PIII chipsets with PC133ram. Much newer technology, consumes less power and runs cooler.

IMHO this is a steal @ $1478.00 (I think that was it) configured very nicely and shipped for free. I was torn between this and the Compaq 2800, the compaq has a ATI radeon 7500 card, USB 2.0 and is about 3lbs lighter.. But I think I want the Nvidia card and the Dell is 100 cheaper.

Qty: 1
Price: $1,578.00 - 100.00 coupon = 1478.00 + free shipping

Valvoline6, this laptop also has a free DVD or CD-RW upgrade, and it's from dell home so no tax for most states either.

I know it has free dvd OR cdrw, but not both. Nor does it have the 64MB video card. BTW the Home section adds tax in plenty of states including Florida. Which sucks for me. Even with tax I got the 8100 last week for $1150 AR and Free Palm m105 which I sold. That was with dvd/cdrw and Radeon 64MB.

hey d00d ur a moron. the p3 is a tualatin - .13 micron processor AND it uses more power and runs cooler than a .13 micron p4...sheesh dont make up stuff when u clearly have no idea what ur talkign about. im sure if rossman comes by he will show u benchmarks where a 1.4 ghz p4 barely beats a 1.13 ghz tualatin p3

I'm not going to get into the middle of this pissing contest, both are good buys for a desktop replacement laptop.

How's that for mediating?

Not after I've had a few glasses of Pepsi, slept for 12 hours straight, wake up at 12:00 Noon and stumble in the bathroom ...

I've heard that the P4 laptops are still having overheat problems.

also, it seems with DELL Home, even after configuring heavily for the 'minimum' items the DELL HOME laptops still cost 5% more then the Dell Small Business laptops, WITH THE EXACT SAME CONFIGURATION in both. Strange isn' tit?

Also, Dell Home makes you pay shipping, while Small business has free shipping. Dell home still charges tax in most states.

IN my opinion, the huge difference in price for the Inspiron 8100 versus the 8200 aren't worth it. Not to mention you got the FREE Palm Pilot (M105) with the old deal.

Just my thoughts, but I am no deal expert. :)

just looked at the inspiron 8200, no tx and free shipping from dell home,
tried the dell small business, supossedly they have a 100 rebate or double the memory
but the price is like 100 dollars more and charges taxfor the same system

Where's the info on the Compaq laptops mentioned above? I don't want to carry the Dell microwave around with me and with the Compaq being 3lbs lighter...... Thanks for the help.

the 8100 and 8200 are very similar in application speed. when p4 came out it wasn't really ahead of p3, and that was a 1 GHz p3 vs a 1.5 p4 with rdram. granted, the NWs are faster than the willies were, but rdram is faster than ddr, so it cancels out.

I stand corrected, I didn't know these were the newer .13 PIII - M's.... If that's the case then you are correct.

Can you show me these test's where with the Intel 830 chipset using a PIII 1.13+ and PC133 ram Vs.
Intel 845 chipset using a P4 1.4 and PC2100 DDR. I cant find a comparison like this anywhere. I know in the dekstop world the old 815 chipset for the PIII's didn't offer any near the memory bandwidth performance of the 845 chipset using PC2100 DDR. That's where I was getting my assumptions from. I thought the 8100 was a 815 using a PIII.

Are their still overheating issues with the slower P4's such as the 1.4?
