The "Venue 8 7000". Horrible name, awesome-looking form factor.

Yes, that's the Tab S 8.4 AMOLED panel. Running Intel's Z3580, which seems to have a higher-clocked iPad Air GPU and should be OK for the resolution. Also running the latest of Intel's "we have tons of cash to throw at random projects" toy, their "RealSense" 3D camera module.

November release; wonder how much it will cost?

Terrible form factor. No different than that Sharp "zero bezel phone"... except they don't seem to count the one side that has a massive bezel. No thank you, I'll take a nice, symmetric design 100 out of 100 times over something like this.

Why does symmetry matter at all? I'd rather have one large side to hold onto instead of 4 equally small finger on the screen sides.

I bet that screen is ****ing awesome.

It looks better, it feels better both in hand and on the eyes. Why are TVs, monitors, books, paper, and tablets almost all symmetric? I don't think it's a coincidence that all of these things contain content that we take in with our eyes. It's good design.

The screen looks bright and vivid in the video I linked above. That said I do not trust anything I do not see with my own eyes or with a colorimeter to make sure it is accurate as well as bright.

That said thinking of such small pixels, part of me wants to say something silly like "it's so cute like a little baby unicorn."

It's apparently the Tab S panel, so we know exactly how awesome it is. The question for Dell was, how do we get people to buy this instead of the actual Tab S? They definitely differentiated themselves... who knows whether it will work.

It looks nice, but I find it hard to buy non-Nexus devices. Crappy support concerns me. That's why I won't buy anything Android from Asus ever again. I wonder how Dell will be?

Looks like nice specs. Obviously the processor is going to be much better than the POS Exynos that the Tab S uses.

Unfortunately I also think that is a very ugly and poorly designed body though. You have a huge bezel on one side and no bezel on the other. I can kinda understand the logic a little on a phone (though it comes off ugly too) but even an 8.4 inch tablet is something I'll probably often hold with two hands and it will be awkward with this tablet. Also why are two of the corners rounded and two of the corners squared. This is an OCD nightmare.

this tablet (and the original Dell Venue 7/8 released last/this year) were running close-to-stock android anyways

might take a while to get more custom ROMs, since they have an Intel Bay Trail chip (and android support for those chips are still a little new/fresh)

With the N9 on the horizon, I don't see why anyone would go for something else. These tablets continue to give Android a bad name and to make Google's tablet experience a joke.

Ok, this is a good start. Now Dell, put Win8.1 on it, add a digitizer, and a bezel on the other side with a stereo speaker and slot for the pen.

Call it the Venue 8.1 Pro. That I would buy.

Notice that the Intel reference platform even includes the RealSight thingy. So I assume the guts of the Dell are a direct implementation and should get updates for as long as Chipzilla retains interest.

If you aren't gaming, will it make a difference?

Besides, I'd be stunned if the N9 screen is as good as this one.

I think this looks better than any other tablet Dell has put on shelves so far. I think the thickness (6mm, very thin) doesn't come along on the video but it may be more appreciated in person. What is the expected MSRP?

I love my Dell Venue 8 Pro. Other than being a little thick (but average for Windows 8 tablets), I think it was an excellent design. It has nice rounded corners, slightly curved sides, and an amazing rubberized feeling textured back.

This new design seems like a tragic step backwards. I wouldn't buy this hideous monstrosity.

TBH this looks awesome for what I do with a tablet, actually I could completely live without the camera, just give me the internals and screen

apps + browsing + videos

god damn me wants

Yeah it looks hella weird to me too.

I may have posted an unclear pic. Here's one that shows the HTC-like two-tone/speaker setup on the handle side:
