Dell G2410 LED 24" Review?

I'm looking to replace my FP2001 with a 24" monitor. I could not find any reviews of this monitor. Anyone seen one in real life?

Well, it's a TN panel, but those are getting better these days. Haven't seen one in real life, I'd be interested to see how all of the power saving features and dynamic lighting effects the picture quality.

The G2410 is one of growing number of 1920 x 1080 resolution monitors, I believe.

I for one definitely appreciate the extra screen real-estate that traditional 1920x1200 gives.

Though, I'm sure that Dell and whoever actually manufactures the G2410 panel appreciate the lower production costs/higher yields that they get by going with 1920x1080 and skimping on the panel size and hoping no one notices.

Jeez, I hope the 1920x1200 form factor doesn't go away. A lot of us really need those extra vertical pixels...

Because of the hi-def craze. The Taiwanese LCD makers like the 16:9 form factor because it enables them to cut costs, as you've seen with the deals on 1080p LCD monitors at NewEgg lately. (Asus makes a bunch of new ones.) It's cheaper to make a 1920x1080 vs. a 1920x1200. You may have noticed that 1600x1200 has almost disappeared from the market. Granted, it's a relatively small form factor, but an excellent working resolution - better in my experience than 1920x1200/1920x1080, because of rotation to view a full page on screen (and an excellent form factor for two screens at once). Do either on 24" and you're looking at a neck brace within a week.

Thass why!

Another big reason is able to to use the 1080P panels in both HDTV and computer monitors. I for one also hate these new "1080P" computer monitor. Wohoo smaller or no black bars when watching tv & more scrolling in web surfing. I'll take the 1900X1200 please. Leave 1080p for TV's!

I actually just got mine yesterday, and whats odd is that the model numbers changed slightly. Now there is a 't' at the end, so it says G2410t.

As a quick opinion on the monitor, there are 3 different modes it can operate in.
- Energy Savings Plus
- Ambient sensor on
- Dynamic dimming
- Energy Savings
- Ambient sensor on
- Standard
- Ambient sensor off

In comparison, I have an HP w2408. Side by side, it is quite a big difference. First off, the color is not as vibrant as my HP. That is to be expected though, as my HP is a glossy, and the Dell is not. Therefore, the HP produces much more vibrant colors. The Dell, on the other hand, produces more "true" colors, if that makes any sense. For example, if I have Notepad open, the white background is actually white, barely bluish-white. I have found the colors to take some getting used to. The menu has a lot of options, as there are 2 color modes - one for graphics, the other for video. Each of them, in turn, have their own modes (i.e., the Video mode has Movie, Sports, etc etc). With the monitor in Standard mode, it is almost as bright as my HP (which is odd, considering I think I saw somewhere that it is rated for 250, whereas my HP is supposed to be 400). With the Energy Savings / Energy Savings Plus modes, the ambient lighting makes it MUCH dimmer, but of course this is all depending upon the ambient light. Energy Savings Plus caps the max brightness to a lower level also. As for the Dynamic Dimming, I have yet to see it in action.

The software would not install from the CD for me, but then again I am running Vista Ultimate 64bit. I may try later.

The stand is pretty cheap, I believe it just tilts up and down. I definitely plan on getting a telescoping stand, as the monitor sits pretty low.
Will try to write a review, but I am super busy with school, and will be out of the country for two weeks. Check back then! 🙂

A better review than here

I'm not super fussy with regard to PQ - I currently have an 1800FP - would the 2410 be an OK upgrade?

Update: Actually, the more I read, the more I think I'll entertain some ASUS products before I go the 2410 route....
