Dell Flat panel monitor, contrast problem

I have a new 20" flat panel screen, DELL 2000fp with a Geforce 4Ti4600 using DVI, but am unable to adjust contrast. Dell support say this is normal, but as the manual says I should be able to adjust it, I'm not convinced. Any one else got this "Feature"

Right ... contrast adjust lets you choose the span of brightnesses. Now with the digital transmission
on DVI, the lowest and highest possible brightness in the signal are a known fact to the display unit,
and are used untranslated for the equally digital control of each pixel transistor's transparency level.

So no need for a contrast adjust there.
All you get is brightness adjust, dimming the lamp that lights the panel.
