This deal was posted earlier, but it's been changed slightly and the old thread got buried. I'm reposting a new thread since I think someone could possibly be interested.

The big difference is that dell now offers a Radeon 9700TX (just a lower clocked 9700 Pro, but MUCH cheaper). IMHO, this card is pretty nice, and costs only $70 more than the old GF4 Ti4200 64MB that Dell used to offer.

NOTE: This is only available to those who quality for the Dell EPP/FSS sales (school/university faculty, college students, etc). Click here to see if you qualify.

There is a similar deal on Dell Home, but the rebates are slightly different and you don't get a 5% discount.

EDIT: Heh, even better with the Early bird rebate. Didn't see that before. Thanks guys. =)

This deal expires TODAY (11/26).

Rebates involved (yes, you can combine all 3 MIRs):
$200 MIR for Dimension 8250 (EPP and Home)
$140 MIR -OR- Free Upgrade to a 120GB HD (Dell EPP)
$170 MIR -OR- Free Upgrade to 512MB PC1066 RDRAM (Dell EPP)
$100 Early Bird rebate (Dell EPP)
Free Upgrade to a 120GB HD (Dell Home)
Free UPgrade to 512MB PC1066 RDRAM (Dell Home)

Sample config (from Dell EPP):

Dimension 8250
P4 2.4ghz
256MB PC1066 RDRAM
30GB 7200RPM HD
Radeon 9700TX 128MB
48X CDROM
Integrated Sound, Ethernet
No speakers, No monitor
XP Home, Works 2002, etc
1 yr limited warranty / 1 yr at home service

$932 + $90 shipping + tax (if applicable) - $610 MIR = $412 + tax

Um, did you check the specs on this computer? I DARE you to find a better deal. That's unpossible! This is a smoking deal for any college student (or their parents ;)) It is a lot of money to wait on rebates but IMHO its worth it. You get a KILLER rig at a KILLER price.

I concur,

This is an AWESOME DEAL!!! the video card itself could sell for $250 at least and the RAM can bring in $150 Easily, not to mention the cpu goes for at least $175 ... The rest of the components are so-so since it is a dell but hell scrap value is much higher plus you don't have to spend forever configuring it.... Awesome deal... now time to got to the sperm bank to get $500 ... damn its gonna take awhile :)

Can the Radeon 9700"TX" be removed from the system or is it integrated? Is it an AGP 8x part?

I thought that was a little strange too the first time I saw that. That's the link that was listed on Dell's EPP site. You'd think that they'd make their own even if they used the same policy, but I guess not.

And, if you strip the video card down to the 64MB GeForce4 MX, it appears to get down to $289 + tax and ship

Forget the $90 shipping. Sign up for a FedEx account and insured shipping can be reduced to under $30. Dell lets you choose your own carrier. I already have a FedEx account and that's probably what I'll use when I order this system.

The 9700 TX is clocked at 263MHz core speed vs 324MHz for the 9700 Pro. Memory is 256-bit wide, but I'm not sure of the speed. Even slow stock speed memory like 200MHz DDR gives 13GB/s of bandwidth or 250MHz DDR gives 16GB/s of bandwidth. That's still faster than the 9500 Pro specs, so this is a pretty good deal.

Excellent advice. However I'm not sure if Dell EPP will allow you to enter your own courier name and courier account number? I know that Dell Home does not have this option, however Dell Small Business does.

Here's info on how to open your own FedEx account, all you need is a credit card number :D
