Err, $750 off would give you a $1250 XPS with a 7800GTX with min other specs, then upgrade the rest yourself.

And at the Dell forum at Notebookforums, it seems like the 7800Go makes too much heat for the 9400 chassis, so they are holding them until they can get them cooler (likely a 2nd heatpipe, rather than the one it has now). Tons of people there have complained about the heat.

The only laptop right now that has a 7900GS is a Toshiba P105 and u cant custom build it so you are stuck with the WXGA 17" wide that does 1440x900. if it did 1920x1200 then I would get it.

Two things about that config.

1. It's probably $200 cheaper to buy your own memory.

2. 80GB is a no-man's land for notebook HDs. You get a nice boost to performance by stepping up to 100GB due to areal density. In fact, for many things, a good 5400 100GB would outperform a smaller 7200 drive.

It says 40 day delay due to the card, but I'm guessing it will be quicker than that.

Re 1. Because it's my first laptop, I didn't want to change the configuration myself once I got it...more convenient for me to just get it how I wanted it from Dell.

Re 2. The cost from the default to 80 GB/7200 rpm was reasonable...but that extra 20 GB wasn't worth it ($60 more) for the 100 GB. $113 vs $173...much like 2.0 GHz compared to 2.16 GHz...$179 vs $358! Which is why I got the 2.0 GHz.

Hopefully it will arrive sooner 🙂

It was...(I have to subtract the router and usb key)...

$3287 - 40% = 1972.20 (free shipping) + tax ... little more than $2000.00

So, no, I didn't use the $750 off coupon 🙂

Okay, instead of trying to figure out what was what...I just went to Dell to configure what I ordered so I wouldn't have to remove my accessories manually (yes, I'm lazy)...and I saw I could upgrade to Soundblaster Audigy Advanced Audio (don't know how I missed that for $15.00)...

So I called them to update my order...added the audio option...and it came out to a total of 1890.35 (including a 515 USB Key (35) and a wireless router (75))...total of 2022.67 (that's including tax).

Somehow, with a $15 audio upgrade...the exact same order by the CSA came out more than $255 LESS than when I placed it online by myself (2262.34)...

That's all before the $105 MIR for the system and $15 for the router...
