Dell E1705 (Inspiron) to XPS M1710 Conversion

I disliked some aspects of the E1705, and loved the XPS M1710 all around, but I did not want to spend the extra $ on it. So, after a little bit of ebaying, and some careful internal work, I present my humble mod.

The LEDs are powered through one of the rear USB ports, nothing special there. 🙂

Unfortunately, the front speaker casing comes so close to the actual speakers that even these tiny LEDs cannot fit between that gap, so I am unable to produce that nice uniform effect the XPS LEDs have, but I still like it!

Tell me what you think! Its by no means perfect but I think its pretty cool for my first laptop mod!

My specs are:
Dell Inspiron M1705 😛
Core 2 Duo T5300 1.73GHz
2GB 533MHz RAM
7900GS 600/1600 1.24V
17" WUXGA Samsung screen
DVD-RW, Silly Creative software sound thing, etc.

Oh yea, because when you get an XPS, you are a guaranteed hardcore gamer, its not like some people think it looks cool... lol

nice!

still havent the gutz to rip out a lappy... but i saw a CPU mag recently that had issue on DIY lappies.... hmm....

like DELL's warranty is of any value but...

um... what did this MOD do to your warranty?

😉
