Managed to connect an S-Video wire to let a TV be a secondary monitor. Ran the built-in diagnostics and got back:

"Incompatible video controller,
Vesa function 0x4f02 returned AX - 34T"

Is the graphics adapter fried?

I have the ati x1400. There are only vga and s-video outputs on my e1505. Both of which will output video to TV or an external monitor. However, win7 will not start, claiming the graphics device will not initialize/respond. The display image is also corrupted by vertical lines and an odd set of colors (not like 16bit or 256 color settings).

I tried reflashing the current bios for the motherboard and leaving the cmos battery out for an extended period. No change.
What if a livecd like backtrack were able to successfully boot and load?

Unless I can just remedy the issue (whatever it is), I'll likely go without a laptop and just use my desktop until I graduate and get a job. The 1505 is in need of a new battery too. Stupid smartbattery tech and dell. I could likely get a new laptop with decent capabilities for the same price of a new one of their batteries and replacement/repair for this issue. Luckily the win7 license I am using isn't oem and can be transferred to other hardware.
