This laptop has a Core Duo T2300E (1.66GHz). I'm running DVD Shrink to compare it to my custom desktop with a Pentium D 820. On the desktop each core runs at 100% and it can rip a DVD really fast. The total CPU usage of both cores on the laptop is only 50-80%. Could there be some setting enabled to conserve power and make it not run at full usage? It is running on AC power. Any help or advice is much appreciated.

No, there is no power setting you can change. Its likely just an aspect of how Core Duo works with DVD Shrink.

Are you ripping directly off the DVD drive or off an image already on the HD?

Could it be that the DVD-Rom is unable to read the data fast enough so that the CPU ends up waiting at times?

It might be by design to keep the battery from burning up.

That's the most likely explanation. Many DVD drives throttle the read speed for video DVDs.
