A cheap 24" LCD is $700-$800. If you could build a PC for $500, it would still be more than $959 + tax.

Meh... Tax + shipping to CA makes it ~ $1200. I wouldn't buy that system for $400 so I don't expect anyone else to. the monitor goes for $800 typically so this isn't that great a deal.

Dell is in most states now. Any state with a Dell kiosk anywhere (say, any mall) will charge sales tax on anything direct from Dell (with the obvious exceptions of Delaware and IIRC Oregon, which don't have sales tax).

😕 He isn't far off, the processor and motherboard are probably ~250, the x300 is a budget card, i don't know what they retail for... an 80 gig hard drive is like 40 bucks, 48x cd-rw is not that expensive..
