Dell Dimension Motherboard USB not working with Aspire Qpack cable

Hi all,
I have an old Dell Dimension 4600 motherboard with Pentium 2.4 which I recently transferred to a Aspire X-qpack SFF (yeah, right) case. The case has a USB cable for the front panel port that's supposed to go into the motherboard. I connected the cable to what i thought was the right jack on the motherboard - it has nine pins on it- but it's not working. Everytime I connect a USB camera to the front panel USB port, the entire computer freezes up. The front panel USB on my old Dell case worked fine. So there seems to be some kind of issue between the USB jack on my Dell motherboard and the X-qpack's usb cable. Would anyone know a solution? Dell offers flimsy support and poor documentation, so I thought I would post my problem here. Thanks.

If dell is so lousy that as you said, then there will be no solution for that. Try to find the solution from the board maker..

Most OEM vendors use non-standard connectors for those connections. You're lucky you didn't fry the mobo. Assuming you haven't toasted the USB chip, you need to compare the pinout wiring of the Dell cable with the one on your new case to figure out how to rewire it.

Rather silly to blame Dell. Dell doesn't expect you to move the mobo to another case. It's an OEM system. That's like blaming Ford because you took the motor out of a Mustang and put it in a Chevy and the wiring harnesses don't match.

Great point, now that i think about it. The pins on the Dell case cable and the Qpack cable look identical, so i assumed it would be safe to just plug it in. I am not sure if it's the wiring of the cable or the USB chips thare are different. I will have to dig in and try to find some information. I don't know why Dell uses so many proprietary settings. I guess it's about $$. I vowed never to get another Dell after my PSU failed in about a year. I will just build my own system from now on.
