I want to install more RAM in a friend's Dell Dimension L550r computer. Dell recommends PC100 SDRAM for the machine. On Crucial's website they say the machine accepts either PC100 or PC133.

Can anyone verify that this machine in fact accepts PC133 SDRAM? In reality I'll be mixing PC100 and PC133 memory in this machine. It currently has 64MB of RAM that was installed at the factory; I believe, but did not check, that this memory is PC100.

The only reason I'm asking is that I can buy 128MB of PC133 RAM now on sale at an attractive price. Retail prices for either PC100 or PC133 are twice as much at a minimum.

Some mbs run all pc133 as pc100 just fine. Some mbs only run single density pc133 properly.

Anyway, if Crucial says it will work, I'd believe them. If you order it from their configurator, they also guarantee it will work.

I'm not exactly sure why, but ram specifically for those Lxxxr model Dell's is more expensive than just a normal stick of sdram. If you can get it for a good price from Crucial, that should work fine.

Unfortunately the Spectek PC133 memory I bought on sale at OfficeMax didn't work with the existing PC100 memory. The existing memory stick has a label that clearly states it is PC100.

Oh well, at least I didn't damage the computer.

Can I use a 64MB PC100 in one slot and 128MB PC100 in another slot on my Dell L400C?
Do they have to be equally amount in both slot?

vitoprime, I believe that Spectek you have there is manufactured by a company known as K-Byte, they are some of the worse memory modules I have ever encountered and have severe compatibiltiy issues, and in some cases K-Byte Ram may be Micron chips instead, you never realyl know what memory chips they use for their modules, I believe you will have better success with something like PNY, but if you buy from Crucial's website for the model they guarantee it will work.

lsvtec, they are not required to be the same size, that was only with the older Simm and the newer and hardly seen these days, Rimm.
Both of those are Dimms and will be fine.
