a) Wrong, see above my previous post where I have linkage. I also thought that at first but I researched it before I made a hasty response.
b) See same above post by me where I said the same thing.

Its SUCH a great deal, however, it seems that the 100.00 rebate expires today, 1-30-05.

Damn it, I am always a day too late to these deals. I was going to get it for my sister and her son. 🙁

I did just buy a HP AMD64 3300+ today: 512mb, 160mb HDD, DVD RW+/-CD-RW for $629 AR. Which is the btter deal? If I had to buy to upgrade the Dell to the above specs I think it might go higher than the $629, but factoring in the 17" LCD I don't know. What would the value of that LCD be off-hand? I see some cheap 17" LCD's under $200 now.

Also what kind of memory is the DDR2? Is that the same DDR3200 (400Mhz) that's in my HP now? Looks like I'd have to buy a Promise SATA/Ultra ATA card to be able to use both types of sdrives as well.

There may not be an AMD64 3300+ but this is HP that posted the specs, not me...

AMD sells Compaq/HP some oddball processors. Tiger Direct was reselling some Athlon XP 2900+'s that were sold only to Compaq/HP. The AMD64 3300+ may be another oddball.

Deal is mild because because it was a pretty bare 4700.

256MB RAM
40GB HD
48X CD-ROM

Past deals have included 512MB RAM, 80GB HD, and a CD-RW (or better, a Combo-Drive).

Still warm though.

it's hot despite the stripped version. however if one brings this up to spec (512/80GB/CDRW) you have to add at least $100. IMHO, when available the dimension 3000 deals (349 w/o screen, 499 w17"LCD) are usually better, as they include more memory and bigger hdd and cdrw for about the same price. if you want a performance system get the 8400

The 3000 is only a hotter deal if you don't need a PCI-E graphics card slot. I configged a 3000 with 512MB/40GB/CD-RW and a 17" LCD for $399 two weeks ago.

Saw this deal as well. Not sure if this negates the free 17" LCD monitor upgrade if you select the double memory + FREE CD/DVD RW drive.

I couldn't give the link as it was javascript. Click the link on the first page of this thread and look to the right. The combo deal runs till 2/9/05. Doesn't say if it can be added with the deal for the free 17" LCD upgrade

I jumped on this and ordered. Unfortunately the person I spoke with said the double memory and CD burner didn't apply to the promotion with free 17"LCD. Funny thing is the DELL site doesn't mention this...

Actually it does. If you read the fine print on the burner/memory promotion it says that it doesn't apply to Outrageous Deals which this system falls under.

I bought one yesterday...and 2005FP😉

If you goto the SB front page and click on outrageous deals you'll see it there.

Just ordered one for my wife's biz. Better rig for what she does than the Dimension 3000 system on the other side for $50 less. And this one is uprgradable. Free s/h.
