Ok, I bought my wife a used DELL 4600 that came with 1.25gb memory and 2x hard drives primary one being a 80gb and the slave being 200gb. She wanted me to install the old hard drive from her old machine and format the 200gb with the DELL restore disk.

So, I pop in the cd and load the computer up, and then bam error loading OS, so i go into the bios settings change the option that says OS install setup and change it from off to on and reboot try again and new error "system memory has changed" setup requires only 256mb of ram followed by error loading OS.

Can anyone please help me......

Alrighty,
so i go into the bios settings change the option that says OS install setup and change it from off to on
turn that off!

The error loading os is because it is looking for an OS on a drive that doesn't have an OS.

When the computer POSTs hit the suggested key for boot order (I think its F12 for dell). Select boot from cd/dvd drive (with the install disk in). that's it your done.

you can also go into BIOS and change the boot order to make the CDrom first.

Ok, I tried that and nothing but I did figure it out. My new problem is that it beeps twice (ram error) but it then says the amount of ram has changed press F1 to continue, or F2 to enter setup....

make sure the memroy is properly seated. If it still doesn't work, see if you can borrow memory from another system to test it. soinds like the memory is bad. We'll see.
