I was just wondering if any of you guys got in on those crazy Dell Lcd deals that were floating around recently. I jumped on the 2005fpw, got it a few days ago, was extremely happy, but just noticed a dead pixel today. It's only 1 so far, which shouldnt bother me too much, but im wondering if you guys plan on returning yours for the same reason especially if i notice anymore. Also, wondering if any of you guys have any idea on Dell's dead pixel return policy cuz i searched, and couldnt find anything.

Thanks in Advance, and yea i know, first post, long time lurker, first time poster, go easy on the n00b.

Their dead pixel policy isn't so good. I don't remember what the amount is, but its higher than a couple I believe.

However, you can just say there's something wrong with the screen and get a replacement if its still within the 21day Total Satisfaction time.

i've done it before and they'll replace it within 14 or 30 days or something. give them a hard time and they'll do it even longer than that.

just tell them that there is an area on the screen with dead pixels. don't give them too much information (e.g. don't tell them one dead pixel -- they usually require you to complain about a cluster of about 6)

Are you serious? How hard do should you rub it? I've never heard about this before so it's sort of a pleasant surprise... I'll give it a shot when I go home.

I just got my 2005 fpw yesterday. It's beautiful, but it does have one dead pixel. It is just dead - not stuck on green or red or anything. I'm really pretty happy about it, because I find it much less annoying than the stuck pixel I had on my old lcd. I am definitely not going to return mine, but Dell is quite good about returns. I once returned a laptop to them for no other reason than I thought it was too loud, and they didn't complain once. I also forgot to return half of the software it came with, but they never said anything about it. I find that they have really good customer service, especially for being such a big company.

If you do decide to return it they will send you a refurbished monitor as replacement - probably a monitor that someone else sent back because it had dead pixels. It's likely you would have to return several before getting a monitor without any dead pixels.

Now don't confuse a dead pixel with a fleck of dirt on the screen or a piece of dried snot. Wipe gently your screen with a dry clean rag before using the test procedure. How can you tell the difference ? Easy: move your head to the side of the screen: if the pixel changes intensity, it's dried snot ! If you notice dead pixels, sometimes you can massage them back to life: just rub the screen by pressing a finger gently through a rag around the pixel. No guaranty but sometimes it works; LCD monitors are fairly fragile, so take it easy.

It has worked for me twice on my current monitor. so yeah it has worked well for me so far. :)
