i recently damaged my cpu in my dell 4600. it is a 2.66 479pin mpga. anybody know where i can get a replacement? dell wanted 329.00 dollars, they crazy. any ideas?

dont know much about dell, but maybe you could even update the cpu??? correct me if im wrong, but cant you just get any skt 478? as long as its the same core so the bios recognises it.

It's a 533mhz FSB northwood, newegg has it for $171 Here

P.S. any 533mhz FSB Northwood will work, so you could get a slower or faster CPU depending on how much you want to spend. Just don't get a 533mhz FSB Prescott core as it most likely won't be supported by your motherboard.

It should support an 800mhz chip too. He might want to disable HT or reinstall though, might cause problems if windows was installed with a nonHT then an HT were put in.
