A friend of mine has a new Dell computer. I tried to setup his cable internet tonight but I could not do it.

We tried checking to make sure the drivers were installed. It was. We tried setting up IE to make it work with broadband, it didn't work.

I tried formatting and re-installing windows and it still could not work. We pinged his IP address and it sent and received all four packets sent fine.

I really need help troubleshooting his computer. Of course, tech support is closed and he'll probably talk to some scripted person in another country.

If you have any immediate solutions please help us!

His computer is one of the top of the line dells with an Intel Pro nic card. The drivers were installed but we could not get onto the internet at all.

When I checked the network settings it said that it was sending packets but it was not receiving any packets at all.

Please help!

Is this the first time the modem and computer have seen each other? Is it going through a router or just into the modem?

I would call the ISPs support, not Dell. It doesn't sound like a PC related problem, just some part of setting up the broadband you are overlooking.

you've got 10k posts and still don't know which forum to post in?

Anyway, if the cable internet is new too, then it would be an ISP problem. Of the 3 times I've had cable hooked up, none have worked right away.
