Dell CDR-W's...who makes them???

I'm thinking about getting that black 16x cdr-w from Dell.
I hear that Plextor makes these...is this true?
Does anyone know who makes the cd-roms?
Thanks in advance.

lite-on used to, and lite-on is making (or rebadging) some damn good stuff recently.

Ordered 200 1 GHz Desktop machines at work in the last year and for all ofthe 8 that contained CDRW drives Lite On made them (Sony for the DVD CDRW laptop drives) and still no problems... can't wait for my case to come and try the 24x Lite On drive I ahve sitting next to me.

[edit]They were all Dell machines for Cornell University[/edit]

I have an old Dimension XPS-R 400MHz PII system that I use as a backup; its factory CD-ROM drive was manufactured by NEC. It didn't come with a CD-RW though.

The CD-RW in my stepdad's new Dell is a Sony CRX-160E. That's an Optiplex, though - not sure if they use the same for the Dimensions.

My Dell 4300 just came with an NEC drive. Don't have the model number handy, but can provide it if needed.
A bit loud on the eject, but quiet running and FAST! 😉

bleh Sony CDRW have always suxed arse even the new ones do

check out Tom's roundup

i would go with a liteon from newegg.com and spray paint it that is what i did and it worked great

just remove the faceplate and tray plate (its really easy), spray, let dry and put it back

i used krylon semi flat black paint for my entire case and it is l337

Is the 1 year warranty with the retail cd-rws still valid when you spray paint the front part of the drive?

Any help appreicated

imtim83, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no since you usually have to take some of it apart to do a nice spray job.
