Funny thing in 5+ years we are going to be lol'ing about a mag from 2008.

How about LOL'ing about a Newegg ad from 3 years ago?

2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1000 RAM for $499? (And people are complaining about DDR3 prices......go figure.)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (Windsor core) for $399?

(The above from a Newegg advert in Computer Shopper mag, Oct. 2006, pages 6-7.)

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Those dell AT101W keyboards were excellent. Those were the days when the included keyboard with such a machine was a durable, high quality design. People buy those actual keyboards on ebay for a nice price due to their quality. They're like the Model Ms made by IBM. No sense getting rid of it if you actually care about something pleasant to write on.

I used to love Dell's clicky keyboards that their servers shipped with. Very similar feel to the IBM.

I actually got excited about new CPUs in those days. These days I wonder if I'll ever have to upgrade my Q6600s.

That's about what my specs were when I built my first computer from the ground up. I had a P166C (non MMX), 24MB EDO memory, 1.6GB Hard Drive, 6X CD-ROM, No name 512K video card, 4MB VooDoo 1, Creative Labs AWE 32. It was wicked fast for it's time. I was the king of the nerds in high school that year. Good times.

lol i think i paid about 1600 for my first pc

166mmx o/c to 210mhz
abit px-5 i believe
16 megs ram

I actually got excited about CPU's back then too. These days I have no clue what a Q6600 is.

512KB pipeline burst cache and a S3 Virge video card 166mhz system for only $2399 ! Where do I sign up ? Make sure to include the travan backup for only $225 !

Reminds me of the days when you had to set jumpers for memory speed, bus speed, processor multiplier , voltages.

The S3 Virge video card utilizes PCI local bus for improved performance. Now you can play Doom or Duke Nukem without any lag for a true "virtual reality" experience!

That's almost the exact computer my parents bought me for my freshman year in college.
Dell Dimension P166 w/ 16MB RAM, 1.6GB HDD, #9 video card, altec lansing 2.1 speakers, 17" dell CRT. Played way too much Duke Nukem 3D, Diablo and Quake on that thing 🙂
