Does any1 know if you can buy a bare dell case i like the new ones but would like to build the rest myself.

Cheers.

Even if you are able to get a Dell case, I doubt that it will fit any non-Dell power supply or motherboard. Not only that, but sometimes the design is the selling point for their product, so they might not want to sell the case alone. You can always try to call Dell though.

I am thinking of buying a dell system but I don't like the Case. LOL I mean the USB isn't good pointing down. You can't see anything. So I am here looking for a compatable case. I like the sliding action of removing the hard drive..etc. I like the easy opening.

I am thinking of buying one but I'm not sure. I mean for a little above 1 grand I can get a decent complete system with 17" LCD monitor.

Dell makes excellent cases, IMO, if you don't mind all the plastic. 🙂 They're quiet as can be, very easy to work in, and my case is envious of their ducting. 🙂 As far as the USB pointing down, that's not really a big deal, IMO. My Lexar pen drive barely fits, but this would be the only issue with "downward" facing USB.

What about upgrading? I heard you might as well forget it because regular mobo's won't or barely fit and everything is Dell proprietary. What's your thoughts?

Ya, there is a thread about Dell's power supply. Some guy thought its ATX compatable and put it in, it burn everything. Why do they do that!!!

Dell cases are ATX
you can fit anything a regular case will fit in

EDIT:

but I don't think you can get one directly from DELL
last I checked (which was a long time ago) they got their cases OEM from Palo Alto, but it may have changed
try and find the OEM manufacturer of the case you're looking for and you can try contacting them
and as a last ditch effort you can look on ebay or someplace

I'll have a Dell 8200 (nearly identical to the 8250) case up for sale in less than 2 weeks incase u're interested
