Yes, Dell Business charges tax.

I've been waiting for this deal since I missed the last one Dell had(8100 series ~$1100). How is this one compare to the Compaq 2800 series......seem like they lowering the prices for the lappies recently....what's the motive?????

Don't know about featureset but Dell laptops blow away compaq in reliability...

I just priced out a Dell Inspiron 4100 from Dell Small Business for $1,508 - 10% - 2% eBates.com - $150 MIR - free ground shipping = $1,180.06

Processor: Mobile Pentium®III Processor,1.13 GHz-M 14.1 SXGA+ ATI 16MB Video
Memory: 128MB,SDRAM,2DIMMs
Hard Drives: 20 GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
Floppy Drive: Modular Floppy Drive
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® XP Home
Network Card: Integrated Network Card
Modem: Internal 56k Modem
Modular CD/DVD Drives: 8X Max DVD Drive
Bundled Software: Microsoft® Office XP Small Business¹²
Batteries: 59 WHr Lithium-Ion Battery with ExpressCharge?
Limited Warranty, Services and Support Options: 1 Year Limited Warranty plus 1 Year Mail-In Service
Internet Access Service: 6 Mths of DellNet® by MSN Internet Access for Windows®XP Included

A few questions:
1) After placing the order online if I were to call customer service and ask them to remove MS Office XP Small Business, would they and how much of a credit would I receive? If I do this they'll probably have to VOID this order and create a new one which would in turn VOID my eBates rebate.
2) Last week Circuity City B&M had 256MB SODIMM laptop memory on sale for $54.99 but that's probably expired by now, any other laptop deals out there (besides Crucial.com which is around $84 for 256MB SODIMM)?

Any thoughts on the config I have above?

Also is it worth upgrading to a 3 or 4 year warranty? I'd like a 3 year mail-in but they no longer have that option :(

4 Year Limited Warranty plus 4 Year On-site Service and CompleteCare [add $568]
4 Year Limited Warranty plus 4 Year On-site Service [add $369]
3 Year Limited Warranty plus 3 Year On-site Service and CompleteCare [add $388]
3 Year Limited Warranty plus 3 Year On-site Service [add $219]

Rossman,

I don't think it's worth to upgrade to 3 years warrenty. So far I have 3 lappies. The oldest one is toshiba. It still looks like new. Just use it carefully.

Btw, are u really posting 30 msgs every day? ;)

We'll all be really proud of you if you pull the trigger. If you think you need it, and you've got the cash, do it. How much to bump up the video? CDRW combo?

Wolverine88 - True but there's always the possibility something will go out 1 year 1 month after buying the laptop :(

30 messages a day? Nah, that's just an average, lately it's about 20-30 a day.

Dotman - If I were smart I wouldn't buy it but I never do what I should.

Now for a more meaninful message :), I'm don't know much about laptops although I'd like to buy this 4100 one. Now for the questions:

1) Is there any advantage of going to UXGA instead of SXGA for a 14.1" screen? What's the difference?

2) Is it easy to add memory to the 4100 by myself later? I'm thinking I need around 256+ MB but I want to buy it with 128MB and maybe make an upgrade by myself.

3) Any advantage in going for the NV11 Nvidia 32MB instead of the ATI 16MB one? (I'm not familiar with laptop's video cards)

4) I'll probably get the internal Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless card (miniPCI). Does any one know if it is easy to change this later to 802.11a (54Mbps) or whatever is the next, faster version of wireless network (this assumes I can get a 54Mbps miniPCI card)?

Thanks for you help,
Rayon.

Me again. Oddly enough I can't seem to be able to use the 10% coupon. When I get to the summary screen there is already a $50 off coupon with no "Remove" button. I've tried from 2 different machines (one was just installed and had never connected to Dell's web site) and the $50 coupon is still there.

Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks,
Rayon.

This is happening to me too. I see either $100 off for the 8200 or $50 off for the 4100. I see the 10% off coupon below that but it says that I don't meet the eligibility requirements. If you add another laptop into your cart then the 10% coupon will activate. I did not see any way to remove the $100 off option, only a way to remove the 10% off that wasn't working.
