I have a Dell Axim X50 and I recently purchased a CF GPS card which I later learned was broken and returned for a refund. I also bought Microsoft Pokcet Streets which I hate because you can only put small map segments on a PDA. Therefore, I cannot add a large map segment and view my location using my GPS.

Now, I need a new GPS (either Compact Flash or Bluetooth--cant decide since they are so similar in price) AS WELL as some GOOD software which I can preferably load on an SD card to save PDA storage.

I have heard Garmin City Select is good, and I see on there website they sell the software ready on an SD card for $300 alone...thats way overpriced for software on an SD card...so let me know..

Thanks

I went to there website, and the prices seem to be in Euros, and the maps they sell seem to be primarily Western Europe. I need this USA only, for now so Im not sure I want to spend money on an expensive European dealer.

there's a tab on the top right corner to select your region.

Hey Amtrak
I have been using the PDA with Holux CF card GPS (Model GR-271) since 2007. I have been using other GPS also (I am a Pilot) like Garmin 496, Lowrance Globalmap 100, Garmin 12 XL. Believe me, the Holux is superlative in performance. Probably it responds well since the receiver rests outside the rest of the PDA. I am using Pathaway 4 ($30) which handles maps very well. I have half of India's map in 1:50,000 scale and the software handles it beautifully. I am working on converting the rest of India. This software is ok for flying but not too good for driving since it does not give turn by turn instructions for which I have Garmin Mobile XT which also runs flawlessly.
In Pathaway you can easily convert bmp maps for use in the software with the utility that comes with the software. Any bmp/jpg etc scale pictures will do as long as you know the coordinates of a few points on the picture.
