Dell Axim at $174 for everyone now

Man, decisions, decisions. I have a clie peg-300 (which is the first model) and don't know if i want to switch from palm to pocket pc.

You gotta choose from those 5 or 6 models which is basically whatever you can configure the Axim to. then add to cart, add those two coupon. And viola. You get one heck of a deal.

i guess people like myself have been clicking on the "dell axim x5 handheld" icon instead of the word "handheld" in the list. then click "pocket pc handhelds." no wonder it didn't work before, but works now. thanks.

An Axim is like an Ipaq. It probably takes just as much time to ask as to visit the dell website and see for yourself.

For those that bought one, know anything about keyboards and other peripherals? I'd like to get one, but I learned from having my Palm Vx that writing emails and typing in text are probably the most useful functions for me.

Aircasper: Yeah I got an Order confirmation with the Order number. Meaning basically, I can track the progress of manufacturing, status ect. And even to cancel it if I dont want the thing before it ships. I gotta find more review on this thing.

A few things that I need to read about on this PDA is that whether, can I use a CFI card, the specs only says CFII. And whether can I use two compact flash device at the same time. Eg, a WiFi and memory card at the same time. Do I need some kind of adapter?

And how fast is this PDA at reading/writing to the compact flash memory and the smart media memory?

If any PDA expert can answer the question I would appreciate it alot. I cant seem to find much review on this Axim PDA. I guess its still extremely new.

In the next couple of days, I am going to have to decide whether I would want to wait for a 20% off in the dell home, coupled with a free shipping and a 50 bucks rebate/planned cut would be a good 30 less then what I would be paying for now at SB, 20% off, with tax, 50 rebate.

And yeah its back to the decision decision decision.

This is what I was told/saw at Comdex. You can only use 1 thing in the CF slot, either a WiFi or CF memory but not both at the same time. I believe it's the same slot. You can however have both the SD and CF in at the same time. I didn't see the writing speed since the unit needed a hard reset during the 1-on-1 demo.

This is the problem, some of us received the Dell Home coupon not SB! My 10% emailed coupon is from the Dell Home division and can't be used in SB. This sucks!

I don't think it's worth risking a $50 rebate for a 10% coupon. The difference between 10% off and 6-8% tax(7.75% for me) doesn't seem worth it, but that's just me. It doesn't matter to me because they sent me the Home coupon, not SB.

I highly doubt this rebate would be invalid from the use of coupons.

Guys I advise yall not to go to cnet and read the users comment/review. I just did that I regretted it, those comment just made me believe that 80-95% of those reviewers are either A) Dell's employees. Or B) Hp's employees Or C) Toshiba's employee Or D) Palm's employee Or E) all off the above and other PDA's companies employee.


It totally suck. Lets wait for some kind of a real review. But so far what I can tell is that this PDA, does not support SD input/output expansion, just memory card only. The size may not be for people with hands as small as a 5 year old. It is pretty cheap if you can do the deal. As of now, 3rd party application is hardly on the market, and most probably when it comes you will have to pay for it. If you use your PDA for calenders, phone numbers, mp3 playing and voice recording based on the information available right now its going to do fine just like any other PPC will do. Otherwise, I reccommend wait. Thats all for now.

Sign in to your account and find one of those tabs/link in your account that says order catalogue. And there should also be a place where you can sign up for spam(coupon) in the account page.

I think one or two Axim review might be out today. Keep a look out for it.


I wonder whether this will work with Axim. Do they use similar connectors?

As far as I know, Targus Stowaway keyboards are specific to certain Pocket PC models. Generally, each model has different connectors so the short answer would be no, the Stowaway keyboard that you referenced won't work with the Axim.

I read from a couple of pocket pc forums that had waves of people just ordering and discussing about the Axim. One person mentioned that the keyboard is not the targus stowaway, which at 51 bucks is really a steal for ipad users. But it apparently isnt compatible. The stowaway by tragus have received EXCELLENT review by people at amazon and else where.
