Woohoo I'll be going to either of these Dell kiosks soon.

Do they have any models you can play with?

Clackamas Town Center
12000 SE 82nd Ave
Suite 1093
Portland, OR
Phone: (503) 353-1670

Lloyd Center Mall
2201 Lloyd Center
Portland, OR
Phone: (503) 281-2201

I just called the Clackamas Town Center Dell kiosk at (503) 353-1670 spoke with a friendly guy "Marty" who said the $50 REBATE EXPIRES TOMORROW!!!.

He didn't sound 100% sure though.

Going to call Lloyd Center now to re-confirm and yes they have the $200 - $50 rebate 300 MHz model on display to play with!

Rossman: Sounds like you are going to plunge. You dont have to pay tax right? For 150 straight, that is going to be the best price. And try to find a 10% coupon to bring along, if it goes thru, buy a couple more and love us. 🙂

All over the place in Franklin, TN (Nashville, where I'm from), but not a thing in Knoxville. Guess I may have to get an early Xmas present.

Yes, plus tax. My guess is that if you have a Dell kiosk near you, you were probably going to pay tax anyway online. Or maybe I just live in a stupid state.

I don't pay tax when I buy from Dell online. I live in PA so there's 6 of these damn kiosks around me, all under 30 minutes drive away! 🙂

They have a Pennylsvania IN JAPAN? Wow. 😉

What makes you think that they'res going to be hotties at *your* kiosk?

There could be fat balding slimy Dell-exec type guys. Or even worse the yougota dell guy attitude. :Q

Are these things worth buying? What exactly can you do with them?

The main reason I think I want one is to read ebooks. Also with the microdrive or similar, you could use it as a mp3 player.

Sorry about the 3 multiple posts there :Q

I first read this as "you-go-ta dell". 😀 😛 😎 I think "go to Dell" should be their next slogan.

Its color you idiot! 😉

Thanks smart asses, I did ask for it ...

Damn I was hoping it was B&W, damn damn damn!

Can you use WiFi and CF in this at the same time?

Does this play MP3's?

How is battery life?

The only way you will get WLAN is from the CF slot (doesn't have an internal MiniPCI NIC). So you could use a CF WLAN NIC and for storage, use the SD slot. Sadly, its not a SDIO which would support future SecureDigital IO devices.

I know it has been said before but, Damn AT for "forcing" me to spend (save) money on all this stuff!

It took a while but I think I have talked myself out of buying this.

Knowing they'll probably have future PDA's which allow you to use CF WiFi and CF storage at the same time and CPU's of 800+ MHz in 1-2 years.

Now I just have to avoid the mall tomorrow and I'll be ok.

Rossman: Battery life is awesome, with its colorful and one of the most beautiful screen yet and set half brightness, cnet reviewer were able to play mp3 for 6hrs and 33minutes and then another hour with the unit on. And as for WiFi and CF at the same time, its too bad. Thats the reason y I came up with the buy.com's 256mbSecure digital memory card for about 75 bucks just one day ago. And Rossman, I think that if you can get it for 150 flat. Why not get it, its plain out robbery if you ask me. Use that money to buy a 256mb SD memory card and you would be rocking with mp3 for hours. And with say a backup CF memory at say 512 mb. You can use that when you are not using the WiFi card or the GPS card. I say, even if I cant use a CF card, it would still be rocking with 2 or even 3 SD memory card when we are able to strike a deal on those card.

Now, you only need to convince yourself that you can get a 256 SD memory card hot deal. Thats all. And I am sold with regards to that. In the mean time, I can use the my 256CF card just fine. I wouldnt be surfing wireless any time soon. Laptop solution are cheaper.

This is a hot deal.

And its highly unlikely that any manufacturer will implement a 2 CF slot handheld. They would rather do a internal wireless and a dual CF/ SD slot just to sell the unit for a price alot higher that you would ever dream of paying for it.
And I also thougth about the PC card drives that many people seems to be addicted to. Those thing cost a bunch, and they suck up battery alot, and they are not as durable as CF/SD memory, therefore the possiblity of that coming built-in in a PPC is also low, if they do they would prolly be a brick size and cost a gazillion dollars.

In anycase, look at it this way,

PPC is for a light weight MP3 player, PIM, ebook reader, notetaking, little gaming(entertainment at its smallest) and pretty much thats it. And with that, you would be amaze how much a 256mb SD/CF can do for you. I would recommend having a second card to swap. But if you dont think that its going to do you any good in any foreseeable future, your money is safer with me.

With the mall I'm going to, it defies all laws of physics to not have hotties there.

That's an awesome deal. Here is something that will make it even better!! You can renew your newspaper subscription at the mall and possibly get a gift certificate that can be used at any store in the mall (includes Dell Kiosk, etc). Use that gift certificate to lower the price even more! Here's my deal:

$199 Dell Axim 300MHz PDA
- $50 MIR
- $25 Mall Gift Certificate for renewal of newspaper
------------------------------
$124 Total (not including S/H and Tax)

You might get more if they take the 10% off email coupon (I forgot to ask when I called). This deal is over at Triangle Town Center in Raleigh, NC. Check your newspaper stands in your local mall to see if they are giving out gift certificates. I heading out now (with my 10% off email printout)!

Yeah, now the euphoria is dying down, I'm starting to wonder how useful this PDA will be. Of course, it'll be fun as an mp3 player, and I'd like to see if I can get a pretty large CF card or maybe a microdrive so I can try playing a movie on it... but what I'm wondering about is how good the scheduling is for it. I'm anal enough that I use a day planner to get me through the normal business day, and I'm hoping that I can use this to replace that... but I'm not sure it's good enough for that. And I'm talking about more than just a contact manager... Is the calendar program very good?
