Personally I perfer AMD processors, but I have a $2000 credit I can spend on any Dell Dimension computer for my home. I picked the 9100 but really I can get any of them.
The one thing I know is I want a 24" wide lcd. That limits the rest of my money to between $800-1000 for the computer.

Should I get a dual pentuim. Right now I can get a P4 3.0, DPent 3.0, and the DPent 3.2 in the 9100. THe DP 3 is $200 more and the DP 3.2 is 500 more. You think its worth it?

The think I was really tempted to do is get a great video card in it and then build myself a AMD system and put in the video card, in the new system. I could then eithe use the old system as a server or just sell it to someone.

Don't want a flame war. If you think I should just get a cheap system and take out teh video card, you don't need to bash dell or intel.
 
I think it would be worth the $200 to get the Pentium D 3.0.
 
I agree with jpeyton. Get the D and an a decent vid card, a gig of ram, and worry about the other peripherals later, you can pick them up much cheaper and put them in yourself (I guess that goes for the ram too, depending on the promotion).

Just found a sweet promotion. The 9100 P4 2.8 HT, 1GB ram, 160 SATA drive, ATI850xt, 24in monitor for $2028.

Now if I upgrade the P4 2.8 to a DP 3.0 it will cost me $270. That mean I would have to drop the 850xt to a 6800 (plain not GT) to afford the system. The video card drop would be -$360 so I would have few dollar to play with but not much. I really wish they had 6800GT or 800XL, because I'm not sure if the plain 6800 is that good. I hear its about the same as the 6600GT.

Ok, the new question is the daul core worth it over the video card.

Not true my 6800NU has 12 pipes to the GTs 8pipes...the 6800 should be faster...plus chances are you can OC that 6800 up a few notches in the nvidia drivers or rivatuner without modding the cooling....

The actual 2.8 HT may actually perform better then the 830 does in games or a pretty close wash....so 270 in games wont see it, but you need to ask if the 270 is worth the much better multitasking and encoding (perhaps) apps...Apps that are multithreaded are gonna kick some but....

If it was me I say get the 830 and the 6800 vanilla....If I was into games big I would get the 2.8c cause I would likely swap in a new system before games ever become multithreaded enough to take advantage of the 830....The 820,830, and 840 all lack HT unlike the XE and to me that was a big mistake by Untel...
 
I would say get the D and the cheapest video card you can, then buy one aftermarket. How will that work out for you? Also, that isn't going to be a 2.8C but a 2.8 presscott, pretty much a pooch. At least with the D you have the cool multitasking dualie thing going on.

Definitely go with the D series. That would be the dual-cores 😀 ... I'd go with the 830 personally.

Don't purchase many "upgrades" from Dell because they really soak you. And the system is real easy to upgrade yourself.
 
As suggested screw the video card. Get the cheapest video card, and then buy the BFG 7800GTX from dell for 491 dollars. YOu get the 7800GTX for 491 compared to the x850XT for 520. Pretty obvoius choice right there. If you aren't tech savy, then get the plain 6800. It is better than the 6600GT. Its performance is right in the middle of the 6800GT and the 6600GT, so its a good choice. ALSO I would suggest that you stick with a regular CD drive, and buy the NEC 3540A. They charge you outrageous prices on a dvd rewritable. If you follow these suggestions, you should save yourself a few bucks. Also, call them to make sure that they use the same power supply for the x300Se as the x850XT.
 
That is the one to get! Since you have to use the dell certificate, get the 2.8D at least and the gig of ram, and buy the 7800GTX. You would have a pretty awesome system, then 😀

I personally would stick with the 3.0 Ht processor. Remember that you aren't going to be able to OC, so a faster processor is important.
 
What a few people missed is I get a $2000 credit and I don't plan on spending any of my money. So its not an option to get the D processor then go out and spend some more money on a video card. Also they only offer x300, 6800 and 850xt. Thier are no other options for video cards. I can build my own system easy. If I do I would be building an AMD system. But when my company is give me 2 grand to have fun with as long as its a dell, I have to take advantage of that. And I'm tring to spend every dime of the $2000. 🙂


I think right now I going with the 2.8 (it is HT) and the ati 850xt. I just don't see the the D worth it. Plus I think the 850 with the 2.8 will last me longer then the 6800 and D.


 
Can you believe this crap. I can't the 9100 + 24WS special becuase my computer must be purchased from Home and Home office and not from small business.
To make things worst for the same damn computer the price is over $400 higher.
I can the 9100 for $849 in SB and the same one cost 1,119.

This is crazy dell should be shot for this crap. Why charge teh average person $400 for no reason at all.
 
Well just wait a month. Dell's end of quarter is near. They always have fantastic deals on both their Home and Small Business sites. Make your money go farther by holding onto it for just a little longer.
 
I have to get it in the next 2 weeks. Also I can't use any dells or coupon codes with it.
Not sure why my company puts all these rules on it, but it might be the deal dell is giving them. Like they are only really give dell $1000 and get $2000 system for the home.
 
Get the BEST video card you can get, build yourself an X2 system and put the video card in it.

Step 3.) Profit?
