I got my dell today and booted it up and then downloaded a few programs. I got rivatuner in hopes of unlocking the extra pipes. But when I open it up it says Geforce 6800 GTO / my moniter. Under that in the tab where you can click "low level system, etc." it says 128-bit AGB NVF (4) with 32meg SDR memory. It has the GTO card in it(I opened and checked, a friend of mine orederd a computer, pretty much the same setup as mine, ordered it with the 6800 GTO, and it came with the X800XT. figured i'd check before i booted it up).
Why doesnt my GTO come up as the thing I can customize?

ok, this is interesting, if anyone reads this thread again that is...lmao

Dell UK is only offering the 6800 GTO, but i just check the US site and u guys do have the choice of a 6800 normal.....it shows 325mhz core (GTO is 350) and 300mhz memory (GTO is 450) also the memory is normal DDR, the GTO is GDDR3, so presumably the Dell 6800 wont go beyond the 450 barrier with OC'ing, whereas the GTO's memory can hit 525-550 (1050-1100 effective, no sinks on RAM chips so cant be kept cool enough to be stable at 1100 for too long or go higher, at least in my case)
trouble with Dell site is they dont tell u what the pipes are, but i seem to remember the 6800 standard having only 8 pipes, so that might be a factor as well......being honest, i would order with the cheapest possible card and wait till after Xmas to buy an X800XT at a cheap price when the new X850 range is released 🙂

my reason for saying that is the newer Dell 6800 GTO's cant be unlocked by most accounts on the pipes/vs side of things, only OC'd on the clocks......if u can unlock the card is well worth the outlay, if u cant then your simply getting your moneys worth and no more at a steady price.

Which is exactly why Dell sucks

The GTO's are basically like the ASUS GE's they are the normal 6800 core with GDDR3 memory. The standard 6800 is 12 pipe, the LE's are the 8 pipe version. So a GTO is 12 pipe and 1.6ns memory.

the 6800 standard is a 128Mb DDR with 8 pipes, at least the ones when first released were....either that or all the PC magazines got wrong info from Nvidia...
so many card manufacturers tho have mangled the mix.....lol

the GTO side of things is a little odd.....i think some of the earlier cards Dell gave out like mine are underclocked and locked GT's ......simply because they can be unlocked and overclocked nicely, altho the RAM does overheat i think giving some snow cuz there is no sinks on it.....
but the newer (within the last couple months) GTO's from Dell seem to be unable to unlock the pipes and dont OC so well.......possible they have switched to standard 6800's and OC'd them.....i dunno....

personally im very happy with my Dell setup (see sig) it plays games very well, handles m/tasking nicely, is quiet, and didnt cost me too much.....i will one day build my own AMD rig for pure gaming, but that'll be this time next year when i have the money...lol
