Hello all,
I am having serious problem with my relatively new (3 months old) PC. Any help/suggestion is greatly apprecited.

To start with, about 2 weeks back I got blue screen stop error and that time I didn't note that number. When I re-started everything worked until I tried to install Easy CD creator one week back. At the end of installation, it prompts me to re-start the PC which I did. But that re-start ends with blue screen 0x0000007E stop error. I couldn't even get into Safe mode. It wouldn't get into Window by any means.

I called Dell technical support and they send me re-installation disks and I did re-install the PC. Then everything started working fine for 5 days. Then I decided try installing EZ CD creator and I ended up having 0x0000007E blue screen stop error again. Some times when I tried re-boots, I get Mountmgr.sys on second line just after 0x0000007E error line.

From this description it may sound like the culprit is EZ CD creator. But, I doubt it. Reason being, my friend and myself, we ordered same configuration Dimension 8400 and he installed EZ CD on his machine and it works fine without any issues.

When I ran Dell utility just after Dell BIOS, it wouldn't complete first hard drive read test completely. First time it terminates at 16% and went back to start. Second time at 13%, 3rd time 12% and 4th time 13%. At that point of time I cancelled the utility.

Also, when I checked the BIOS, HT (Hyper threading) was set to off. So, I tried applying factory defalut. But, even after that, it still shows HT off. I didn't get time to check other setting in BIOS. But, I know for sure HT was on when I checked the BIOS few weeks earlier.

Can some one help me on understanding what is issue with my PC and any suggestions?. Sorry about this long message.

PC Config:
OS: MCE2005
P4 3.4 GHz
320 SATA RAID 0 drives (160X2)
1G memory
256MB Nvidia 6800
A05 Dell BIOS.
Logitech cordless optical keyboard/mouse
ATI thearterix 550 TV tuner card

Thanks for your time.

Did you check for any patches related to EZ CD creator? Also, do you guys have the same type of RAM?

Dell uses different companies at time.

2nd, use Nero 6 as test to see if its just EZ CD creator hates your system.

Thanks for your replies.

I couldn't even get into Windows to check for any updates or patches for EZ CD. Just after installation and re-boot, I get stop erro.

I am not sure about the RAM type between our system, that's a valid clue and I will check that. I insttaled Nero 6 and didn't have any problem.

I will be calling Dell on this. But wanted to learn as much as possible before calling them. Last time they said that my iPAQ could be causing this problem!!!!!!!!!!!.

I never had anything but issues with Roxio, just stick with Nero etc. Its great product. And its easier to blame something than solve the problem.

sounds like an system file extension error with EZCD creator. I had that problem before with their older versions and SCSI inetrface, had to update bunch drivers. Go to adaptec to get ultilities that will check these things to make sure your system is kosher.

Before installing Roxio again, you could try running Memtest 86. If memtest 86 passes 2 times in a row, then your ram is 99.9% not the problem.
