Dell 486 PC w/no HD $9.99

Would be fun for a linux box or something (router?). If the picture is accurate, it shows a power supply. $10 is a nice price, but shipping would be a b*tch! :Q

Wow. People still sell these things.... $10.00 ain't bad if you want a software router. Doesn't say whether it's a 486SX/20 or a 486DX4/100 though 🙂

dual com ports! i know what thats for. this is good if you need the dual com ports. EDIT: i just got anandteched so i'm going to have to pull the pricing error. everyone in time still received their prize.

The BIOS should be able to handle up to 8GB natively? You should be able to add a PCI controller board to allow up to 128GB drives. In any case, I'd use an add-on controller.

you'll find better deals on ebay. i got mine for $10 + shipping and it came with 3.5" and 5.25" disk drives, 600MB hard drive and windows 95. good for use as a router

last time i bought stuff for a 486 It weighed like 40 pounds, I got the case for like 19 cents and the shipping was 22 bucks lol, good deal for the comp, but shipping will slaughter me lol

That's assuming it even has PCI slots, which is probably does not. Most 486's had VLB or pure ISA only slots. Expanding the RAM would be a bitch too, since it's likely to use those old 30 pin simms.

I seriously doubt that. I've worked on a million 486's and I'm impressed when they can recognize any hard drive over 640MB.

Alot of people don't have enough money even for the most basic setup. I thought this would be interesting for some, sorry if it's not "cutting edge".

If it turns out to be like a DX/66 or something, wouldn't that be enough for really basic web-surfing?

Western Digital and Maxtor have utilities that will trick the BIOS to accepting a larger HD than the 540MB limit on the older BIOSs

woh, i didn't know people still "buy" these parts. funny thing is i just threw out my old 486dx2/66 with mobo (built in sound & video!! :Q)and 5.25 floppy! guess i should'a given it to you guys if I'd knew. reminds me of good old days.....

FS: Sim City I on a 5.25 floppy (very first sim city!!) 😀
figure i'd ask..
