I am working on a Dell 4500S that has a burning smell issue. All fans work fine and the processor seems okay. However, right beside the processor is a peice of hardware I cannot identify.

Its about 4 or 5 inches wide and abouth the width of a stick of ram and about twice the height of a stick of ram.

It has "Lite-On" silk screened on it, but no other identifying features.

Any ideas.

it might be, but i looked at my 4500 and dont see it.. unless they put the lite-on sticker there by mistake.. lol.

their vrm has heatsink on it.. silver or black.. u sure it's not memory or some other type of controller ?

their vrm is usually 2" height and about 2.5" wide

4-5" wide is too wide for their vrm
