This seems like a good deal on a a fast basic unit. Just not sure if it can be used as a desktop.

Unit comes with dual core Pentium 915, 1 gb 533 RAM, 2ea 80gb SATA HD's, no Oper. System

Cheap to upgrade to 925 chicp and faster RAM

I heard these come with some limitations for the video slot, and can't modify to run pcie x (whatever) like the older models.

I looked at these in depth a year or so ago, looking of this kind of server to purchase for a site and a couple VM's, and honestly, I think software is the only way. Dell makes a point to say "software raid" over and over, mentioning operating system level at least once. It would be nice to know for sure, though.

I called Dell on this system. The guy said RAID one needed the controller card.

According to the website, a RAID card is $199.00, but the guy on the phone said it is $119.00 when ordering by phone.

also, shipping online for me was $69.00 but the guy on the phone said it would be $20.00

I am seriously considering this purchase.
