DELL 400SC at $299AR again - no double memory

BTW...I picked up one of these some time ago and made it into a Fedora Core 1 (Red Hat) Linux box...and it runs like a charm. If you are looking to try Linux, this box kicks ass for that.

Same for me, showing up as $449 with a 100MIR. I've got it on the most basic setup, even tried it without the free upgrade to P4. Is there a way to get the $50 discount, or has the price just been changed by Dell?

I got mine last month ($275.00) and it's sweet, the upgraded processor is a 2.6 HyperThreaded. I added 256KB of Kingmax PC3200 DDR ram from NewEgg ($45) and then system recognized all 384k.

You can't build them for that cost.

It looks like they changed the discount (besides the MIR). The discount when I bought this morning was $100 off, now it's just $50 off.

Q about dual channel... Can you have 2 sticks of the same memory + 1 other memory, and have the 2 stick set run in dual mode?

No... They don't have to be the same memory. You can't run one bank dual and the other bank non dual just go to crucial and buy another PC3200 RAM (128 Meg) I presume?

This really isn't a hot deal. But a deal non the less. Now if you could convince your friends and family to go in on these systems and buy enough of them to get it over the 850 bucks you could use the 15% off coupon that would make it a better deal. Worked in the past but I am not sure if they still permit this.

yup they just jacked the price up $50.00, is was $299.00 a hour or 2 ago.

and you can run 128mb and 256mb together , but you won't be running dual channel, and you might as well go buy a old 400FSB cpu and motherboard if you aren't gonna run dual channel.

all you would need to add is another 128mb of pc3200 and you would be good to go for basic day to day use.

but if your gonna game, 2 x 256mb is a way better, i have 4 x 512mb in my 400SC with a GF FX 5900 and a 2 X 200gig WDSE hard drive and 2 x cdrw-dvd, great gameing system and the power supply runs all these devices no problem.

a couple months ago, there was a link with a how-to on selling back parts. I don't need the ram or the CD, and I don't want them sitting around. Anyone got this link?

From what I have heard they stopped the buyback policy because of abuse of it.

Back on the first 400sc deal when I sold back the CDROM. RAM. and HD I simply called them up and said I needed better components and they let me know where to mail the parts.

I think that was like 1994 RAM prices 😉

Got my 2 PE400SC's that I ordered 2 weeks ago - time to send off more Dell rebates!
