The video card kills this deal. Why can't Dell offer an option of a decent video card for a higher price? I'd pay another $100-$150 for a decent video card.

Has to knock off the fixed CDROM drive off to make $720, you think this is a practical deal?

I also bought the Toshiba 1005-S157 a couple of days ago for $699 + tax (after $100 MIR), and while this Dell deal is tempting, I'll pass for the following reasons:
- memory: 256 MB (1 DIMM) vs. 128 MB (2 DIMMs) - you'd have to dump both 64 MB SODIMMs in the Dell to upgrade to 256 MB. The Toshiba starts at 256 MB, and you can upgrade from there. With the cost of memory today, this is a big cost differential.
- drives: Toshiba includes both the DVD-ROM and the FDD, and the DVD is modular. The Dell optical drive, if you pay for it, is fixed.

Dell advantages are the larger screen (but it's still XGA - max resolution won't go above 1024x768), and much better battery.

Close call.

Sorry man, but Dell deals definitely don't last for 2 months. Thanks for getting me excited though, I was ready to buy it. :disgust:

I guess I should have looked at the dates too!
