Dell 2407WFP rev A04 1:1 1920x1080 pixel mapping

I have a 2407WFP rev A03 that doesn't support 1:1 pixel mapping for 1920x1080, and I've even considered selling and replacing it with either a native 1920x1080 screen or one that supports 1:1 mapping. Then I ran across this thread that seems to indicate that Dell will actually replace (under warranty) a monitor for this issue:

http://en.community.dell.com/f...79769.aspx?PageIndex=5

However, the last post in the thread seems to contradict the notion that the rev 2407WFP A04 supports 1:1 pixel mapping for 1920x1080.

I don't want to waste my time or Dell's money for nothing... Is there anyone that has an A04 that can confirm/deny this?

edit: for DVI specifically. I really don't care if it can do it with component or VGA...

Hopefully I'll remember to look when I get home. I received an A04 replacement a few weeks ago for my A03 (I think, might have even been an A02), and it's junk compared to my old monitor.

Thanks. The A04 is junk compared to your A02/A03? How so? That worries me because I like my A03 minus the lack of 1:1 pixel mapping for 1920x1080.

I don't know if I just got a crappy refurb or what - but my old panel was much nicer. The colors blended much better (couldn't see the 6-bit nature as much), it didn't have brightness issues. It was just as perfect as it could have gotten. The new one, well... odds are I'm going to have Dell send me a new one here in the next week or so.

Are they pretty easy to deal with in regards to returns? The only time I've ever dealt with a Dell RMA was when they sent me a 1905FP instead of the 2005FPW I ordered. They were pretty quick about it, although the support rep I dealt with was a moron. He didn't understand that they sent me the wrong model (a much cheaper one), and he kept asking me, "How do you know the monitor is 19" instead of 20", did you measure it?" So, I dread having to try to explain 1:1 pixel mapping to their support staff.

I had no problems. Either have your order number & serial number handy (or Service Tag if it was ordered with a system), they'll look it up, get the warranty status, and ask you a few questions (mine was physically broken - the power button), then set up a dispatch. You should have a monitor the next day or so.

It took about an hour on the phone though, apparently they have to go through several systems in order to get monitors done, and the systems are not very fast.

That's too bad. That's how mine is...

Thanks for checking though, I appreciate it. Saves me the trouble of trying to RMA an otherwise great monitor.

Mine does 1:1 at 1080 and I'm sure its A03

I think looking at the back (or the box it came in) is the only way to tell. I'm sure if you can get into the service menu there is probably a way to tell as well, but I imagine just turning it a bit on the stand would be easier then all that.

Are you using DVI? I'm certain I have an A03, and the monitor itself cannot do 1080 1:1. I can do 1:1 scaling via the NV control panel, but not if I leave it up to the monitor's own scaling. If your A03 does 1080 1:1 via DVI it would be the first one I have ever heard that can.

it can be enabled if you run some other resolution, on my 2707 it is enabled for 4:3 resolutions.

Yeah, this is the case with my rev A03. It can do 1:1 scaling for some resolutions, 1680x1050 for example, but 1920x1080 and even 1600x1200 are not selectable.

Here is what the Dell tech posted for the 2407WFP A03:

Oblivion
2407WFP A03

Widemode options greyed out, Fill only
1920x1200
1920x1080
1600x1200
1440x900
1360x1024
1360x768
1280x960
1280x800
1280x768
1280x720

Yeah, well I'll be RMAing mine anyway - though not specifically for this issue. I was sittting on a web page the other day and on the grays it was flickering horribly (I posted a thread about my issues with this unit). I am definitely not pleased.

Just looked, its A04.

hmmm... So, I guess I'm back to square one. Your A04 does 1080 1:1 via DVI, but SunnyD's doesn't.

Yeah using 1080 now to reply.

I remember it was a bit unintuitive to set up in the monitor OSD.
You couldnt set it to 1:1 when it was at native res you had to be lower.

Yeah, this is the way mine is too. At native res, you can't change anything. At lower resolutions (like 1680x1050) you can enable 1:1, but it's just not available for some resolutions (like 1920x1080 and 1600x1200) for the A03 version, even though they are also lower resolutions than native.

SunnyD also mentioned that his A04 refurb does't have a very good picture compared to his A03, how is yours?

I've always been really happy with the picture, I don't have any other revisions to compare though.

I don't have any obvious banding and I'm not sure what the 'brightness issue' is but I've never had any problem there.

I found out something interesting.

If you switch to a resolution that 1:1 is supported in, and change the monitor to 1:1 in the OSD... then any resolution that you switch to from there will be mapped in 1:1 - including 1920x1080 (yup, I'm getting the black bars top and bottom). Same goes for aspect scaling. It appears to save settings on the monitor per resolution. Hope this helps!
