nooooooooooooooooo.

Any websites to get these from? I've seen some 10% on ebay but they say they don't stack so I don't know if it would work. Really wanted to order one today.

The 3007 HC uses an updated S-IPS that improves on some of the flaws of the original. It just increases the brightness of the panel to bring up its constrast ratio, but I think its only like 800:1 on the new HC. The 2407 uses an S-PVA panel, but TN panels are creeping up from the bottom, with the latest invasion being the 20-22" panel range. Anyways, if you see 2000-3000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms grey-to-grey response listed in the specs you'll know its the new Samsung 24" TN.

Typical knocks on TN panels are excessive backlight bleed, poor color accuracy, poor viewing angles, and poor panel uniformity. Some of it is due to the panel tech being used, but some of it (like backlight bleed and panel uniformity to some degree) is probably a result of build quality. Problems like color accuracy and viewing angles are inherent to the technology used, since TN panels are 6-bit and use dithering to achieve close to true 8-bit color (16.7m or w/e).

That being said, the latest wave of 22" TNs are pretty good, like the Samsung 226BW and the LG 226W (heard good things about the Gateway 22" too). The benefits of TNs are they're cheap and have excellent response time and little input lag. The 24" TN panel could be very good, possibly the best gaming LCD in the 24" category if you're not too picky about color accuracy/uniformity/viewing angles.

Wow they now have the 27" too.
Until now I thought they have 24" and then 30".

But both 27" and 30" are prices out of range.

just got my 2407 from ups.

gotta love 3-5 day shipping that comes in 2 days.

A04 panel, hecho in mexico.

I have some things to do now I will unpack and check it out later.

Well I used a 10% off coupon, applied for their dell preferred account and got another 3% off plus free shipping it worked out to 640 shipped for me. Just going to pay it all off the first time the account info comes anyways. Got the monitor already.....Revision A04, no dead pixels that I can see. Very impressed with the quality of the monitor. Now I just need a better video card to drive this thing for games....the 7800GT just isnt going to cut it. Thinking a 8800GTS 320MB, potentially two for SLI.

Wow those prices are really high. I think you can get a 40 inch hdtv for around 600-700 now. And they are only selling the monitor for that price.

Current price is $624 for the 2407.

And then they want double that for the 27inch monitor. $1169.00 seems a bit steep.

anyhow i do however love their stand they sell the dell all in one stand. only wish my 24inch would work with it.

just get a single 8800GTX

I am playing Oblivion at 1920x1200 and its absolutely gorgeous and smooth.

Anyone has any experience using 2407 or 2405 with any of the Ergotron LCD arms, in particular 45-174-300 or 45-172-300? I wonder if 2407 is too thick (which moves center of gravity beyond recommended 1" from the mounting plane) or too heavy to be used with one of those arms.

At a 1920x1280 resolution, would I still be able to run dual monitors with a single 8800 GTS (640MB)? To people who have the monitor, how has the quality been when running at non-native resolutions for games?

haha, nobody buys $629 as is with 3 year warranty and free 3-5 day shipping?

I did. I can't believe I spent $600 on a monitor...but then again, my Viewsonic VX922 was $360 when I bought it; it had just come out.

The warranty is nice and the 2407WFP is rated very highly against it's competition.

How could an HC ("High Color") panel use TN? Most TNs are 6-bit and the color is the worst of all panel types. My guess is the 2407 HC will use an S-IPS panel, and cost a fair amount more because of it.

Guess you've never tried using a TV (even an HDTV) as a monitor or else you wouldn't bother to make the comparison. Fine for games but that's it.

that's the whole problem with the falling prices of HDTV. people not in the know or pretending to be in the know would think 24" or 30" LCD monitors prices are outlandish. while they do not even take into account the whole resolution and LCD/HDTV differences.

you can go up to 65" LCD and it is still 1920x1080, while your normal 24" supports 1920x1200 and 30" goes up to 2560x1600.

look for an email from dell for your coupon code to bring this down to $5xx. very nice price on a very nice monitor

But that is a GOOD thing: If ignorant consumers resist 24"+ LCD monitors at current prices because they mistakenly make the apples-to-oranges comparison with LCD HDTVs, the manufacturers will be forced to lower prices.
