Dell 2405fpw question...

Well I ordered two 2405fpw's this afternoon, and after the initial excitement I had a disturbing thought. I know they are pretty darn large in size, but will having two side to side at an angle just be TOO MUCH? I should have thought of this prior to making the purchase, but it was more of an impulse buy more than anything.

Also...has anyone done a dual monitor setup with two 2405's yet? If so, how is it?

Thanks again.

That would be quite the large head turn but I would love another one sitting next to my single 2405...

Two 2405's sound good to me. I keep thinking about getting a couple myself to replace my 6+ year old dual 19" monitor setup. Only thing holding me back is the fact that I like to play games and I have seen varying reports on how well the 2405fpw does at non-native resolutions.

If you got the space why the hell not. :) I also have a 2405 and I'm very happy with it I might just buy another one. :)

I have the money to buy one of those too but i'm just going to stick with my 17" 12ms samsung for the moment ^_^ CS Source plays fine.

I'm waiting for a 1, 2 or 0ms 19" Displays to come out. 4ms's is tempting but not worth it just yet.

LCD's are going to be dirt cheap soon enough so best to wait. me thinks.

I would love to see one of these reports. How what constitutes non-native? You can choose 1-1 pixel render on this monitor, avoiding all stretchmarks...

congrats on ordering two of these.
UPS has just sent out their truck for delivery of mine today.

as for too much, possibly. (thinking gaming and the stress of running that on a video card)
you could always just rotate one monitor to portrait.

for desktop/app use, this setup would seem extremely sweet.

Yeah, the idea of that much screen real estate was tempting, seeing how I spend so much time shuffling back and forth through windows and applications. I spend about 4-5 hours per day at home writing code as it is, so hopefully the added space they give me will aid my efforts a bit. The 2nd one I bought mainly to watch movies/TV while working, but to be honest now that I already ordered it, I am having trouble justifying the added cost.
I try to tell myself that perhaps if I can't find a solid reason for having two I can give the 2nd to my son to use, but seeing how he is only 11 months, that reasoning is no good. lol Perhaps when he gets a bit older I will have a better reason to go on these tech shopping spree's, and I won't have to justify my hunger for tech goodies to my wife.

8ms is fast enough for me, I'm wanting the rest of it to catch up such as viewing angles, contrast/brightness, resolution all to catch up.

1920x1200 >>>>> 1280x1024. Even the response time on the 2405 is respectable at 16ms although lower would be better if it didn't sacrifice on other aspects.

I'm definately itching to get a large flat panel the likes of the 2405, as I'd definately love to have it double as an HDTV / video display for my bedroom...and with the way LCD prices are falling, and Dell keeps those coupon deals coming, I may just be able to grab such a display once it hits my price point - hopefully soon.

Yeah, I have to second the question about where in god's name do you people get all this money? I want some *grin* I mean yeah I spend a good chunk of change on my machines, but there is no way I could a afford 2 grand worth of monitor, crap my whole rig barely cost that much.

I used to have 2 24" crt dual setup, if u have to keep turning between monitor, 4-5hrs is too much for your neck especially when comparing codes. to be honest a single WS setup is quite alright for code writers unless u want to do your work while watching movies. Anyway 2 is always better than 1, cpu, gpu, monitor even optical drive.

I just convinced a coder friend of mine to get the 2405 (his rave reviews got me to get my own. so much for living vicariously) and he says it's truly awesome to effectively see two entire screens next to each other.
I really can't imagine having two.
I'd appreciate a pic when you set them up, though.

I have one 2405 and I frackin' love it. It's so beautiful (my gf got jealous when I told her that). I play BF2 (16x12, not native) on it. I average 80 fps with it. I never see any artifacts or ghosting, which I look for all the time. If you search the forum, someone posted the specs for the 2405, and I believe the response time was 8ms, not 16.

2 moniters would be overkill for my 4' folding table. THE ONLY prob i dislike is movies do not take up the whole screen there's roughly a 3 black bar around the whole thing.

And a pic you shall have. They should be delivered in about 1-2 weeks from now while I will be in Florida on vacation with the wife/son, so the suspense is going to be terrible. As soon as I get them in and set them up I will take a few pics.

SilentZero. You bought 2 of the 2405's. :) You BETTER have got them for $803.33 shipped each ( or less ). :)

Yep. Two side-by-side is gonna be a neck stretcher. I have enough trouble keeping track of a 2405FPW and 2001FP side-by-side. I game at lower resolutions ( when forced to ) and it really isn't THAT bad, but I am not that picky either. :)

Parkre... I have never had black bars around the WHOLE picture. I usually see some on the sides ( 4:3 ) OR some on top and bottom if the material is 2.35:1

My wife would kill me if I bought two of those! I really want one though.

There is a way to see black bars around the whole picture - use "Centered Output" for the DVI Flat Panel Settings in the NVidia display driver. Fixed aspect ratio will only give you bars in one direction.

Well, I finally got mine today, and next to the 2001FP, it looks great. Never mind the size, the picture is just that glorious. It makes the 2001FP look a bit jaundiced, actually.
the 2001FP as a secondary is only temporary, but I found it too wide next to the 2405 (desk size is a limiting factor). Put it into portrait, and I got a nice web browsing monitor to park next to the behemoth that is the 2405.
Now, at least, I can imagine what two of them would look like next to each other.
nuts.

I am sure you can justify it someway or another. ie. "my cc slipped from my wallet and everything after that is groggy....I am not sure I can send them back"

I am sure she will forgive you if that happened ;)

I am using windows media player10. I don't have as much when playing a ws dvd, but as for my "other" movies, I think they were encoded with the blackbars on top and bottom, and then when put on the widesreen, they stay there. And to top it off, since the movies are encoded 4:3, it stays that way on the widescreen, which means black bars are added to the sides to. Making it look like a 3 in black bar all the way around. If you know of another player that would do full screen....please tell me.

oh, and by the way. My versions of season 2 Battlestar Gallactica fill the entire screen.
