Exactly when I thought. The 4200 had 1920x1200 well within its specs, the only think I was not sure of was the single link dvi (though I would be pretty surprised if dell made only 3% of video cards sold be able to handle the lcd)


Now, did you have to use a special setting like reduced blanking or did it simply plug and play perfectly?

im guessing thats the Geforce2 Ultra with 64Mb?

now try and play CS:S running it....heh

it may run, but it will look like crud...lol

go for a 9800 XT if u can get one cheap enuff, that will definitely run it fine and give you good graphics on DX8 games.....DX9 games it will suffer a little on the eye candy....
 
There is a store in the LA area called Unitek that advertises Dell monitors. I have never seen the 2405 listed in their ads however. Here is their LA Times ad.

You might give them a try if you are in So Cal.

100% Plug and Play no issue and it isn't blurry at all. I am actually shocked.

As for knyghtbyte. Look at the second part of my post. I have a 7800GTX and 4400+ X2 coming and then this incredible monitor (not one dead or even partially dead pixel) will get some proper usage, LOL.

Edit: I still have the ATI drivers and Control Center installed and the Geforce 2 (not the ultra version) is still running great. Unbelievable, LOL.

Hold on now. I can watch movie clips at half screen (I haven't even tried full screen though that would be interesting, LOL). I have a new system ordered (all the parts coming now) and I will be running a 7800GTX with this monitor. I am just using the Geforce2 because my 9600pro went kaput. I haven't even dared try to run a game. I think that would be a rather hilarious experiment. Maybe I will try and run one after I have finisthed backing up my stuff.

Are you using it in DVI mode, or VGA?

Reduced blank interleaving enables it self automatically, as 1920x1200 its self is not part of the DVI specification. So all video cards will use this feature no matter if hes got a 7800 GTX or a GF2 Ti.

When I said vanilla 6800, I meant the 6800LE. The LE would be about equal or slightly below in performance to a 6600GT. The advantage in getting the LE is that it has a 256-bit memory interface and can be softmodded to get the additional 4 pipes and 1 shader. The 4/1 softmod is about 80% successful and the 8 pipe, 2 shader softmod has a 25 to 40% sucess rate.

It comes down to whether you want to void a warranty to get close to a 6800GT performance from a $133 video card.

BTW. I just reinstalled Half-Life 2 and had a session on my 2405FPW. 1920x1200 4xAA 8xAniso was a little sluggish on my 6800GT, so I backed down to 1680x1050. I didn't notice any major problems with scaling artifacts and such ( esp. when you are too busy killing shocktroopers. ) I guess I need to run the timed demo to bench. It actually looked pretty good to me and my friend ( who is a die-hard Linux freak - ie. stopped gaming ) was impressed by both the monitor ( he has an Apple 23" ) and the game.

It's enabled by default on the ATI drivers, but you can disable it and still run 1920x1200 at 60hz.

 
Just buy it! I'm a developer as well and in front of my 2405 for more hours than I care to admit, but my eyes thank me every minute... It's truly an awesome monitor...
 
The 2405 is a truly awesome monitor. Got mine last month and love it. Unfortunately there are no stores that carry this monitor in stock so it is a little leap of faith. Not even the Dell retailers carry these. The good news is, if for some odd reason you are disappointed with this monitor Dell has a 21 day no questions asked return policy.

Yes but I don`t want to pay return shipping (I got lucky with my 2001fp though)

Also, I actually found a 2405 in a store by chance. I was there to buy a printer with my friend and a Dell Kiosk in the middle of the store had one in storage. I asked to see it in action but they had no free computer to set it up with.

Kinda funny that Japan had what I was looking for. I have a little sheet with all the Dell Kiosk locations so that I can call and see if they have any on display

right but I don't think the connection in the 2405FPW is a dual link... But I don't really know if it works that way or not. At any rate its great even with reduced blank interleaving on.

sweet, well you nerds convinced me that I need this LCD (whether I can afford it or not) so next ~$800 sale I will have to pick it up!

When will it be put on sale next?
 
No way of telling...camp the Dell site every morning (might want to check the refurb section, too).
