Dell 2405 LCD $840 + tax (Ends wed 7/13)

I received my 2nd monitor today.

It is perfect except one dead pixel and some significant backlighting issues in one corner. I can't tell when the screen has a picture on it but when it is booting up it is obvious.

Do other people's 2405FPW have a backlighting issue? Should the screen be completely evenly black when on (but no picture)?

Which corner? I thought that I had a problem because in the Windows XP startup and shutdown screen I saw what looked like a glob of light in the upper left corner. I'm thinking that that might be how that screen is colored since I don't see evidence of backlighting in that corner (or anywhere) under any other circumstances.

The $840 for Small Business orders will only be valid until next wed. I was told that they expected orders to outstrip production and that orders placed at the last minute would likely see longer than usual delays in shipping (no specific dates though).

Anyhow I got mine in, $840, $63 tax for a total of $903 shipped. I had just placed an order for a 2405 from the home website at $1123 total so this deal just saved me $203 thanks for the heads up guys.

Plenty hot enough for me 😉

Got an email from the rep confirming the extension of the deal till 7/6:

The promo was till the 29th of June but it has been extended till the 6th of july.
Regards,
Patricia.

so why are they extending it....my guess is their not selling enough...trying to justify spending almost double the amount of a 2005... will probably get another 2005...hope you enjoy ur 2405...

I don't see why it's hard to justify when everyone else with an LCD this large is charging twice as much. Larger screens cost do not scale linearly.

Edit: Especially when you consider it has about 16 more square inches than a 2005.

This may be off topic but is it worth paying almost twice the price of a 2005fpw to get the 2405fpw? I'm interested in the 2405 but it's hard to convince myself it's worth the price.

I asked myself the same question. I got the 2405 last Thursday, and I must say that I absolutely love it. I've heard of backlighting issues with the 2005, but I see no problems whatsoever with my 2405.

In my opinion, the extra screen real estate is worth it.

I don?t have a 2005, so for me $400 more to get the monitor I will be happy with for the next 5 years is worth it. If I had a 2005FPW, would be a much harder decision.

Anyway, seems the $840 price has been extended and will be valid till 7/13. I betting that there will be even better deals shortly but for those that would like to buy one now, you should be able to get the $840 price and free 2nd day shipping till at least the 13th.

I have no regrets buying this monitor. Planning my backpacking trip with the huge real estate made it sooo much nicer to view the Topo maps!!

Okay, let me do the math for all of you who are trying to convince yourself that the 2405 "isnt worth the price" compared to your "stellar deal" 2005/2001 fp(w).

Here is a recent deal on all dell monitors, pulled from fatwallet

Dell 2405FPW 24" LCD $1199 - 25% = $899
Dell 2005FPW 20.1" LCD $749.00 - 35%
Dell 2001FP 20.1" LCD $749 - 30% - $60 = $464
Dell 1905FPT 19" LCD $479 - 30% - $30 = $329
Dell 1704FPT 17" LCD $329 - 30% - $30 = $200

Hmm, $135 premium to go up 1 inch from 19" to 20". Let's add 4 more inches at $135 each to the $464 pricetag of the 2005fpw, and see how much the owners of 2005's are really willing to pay "for four more inches". 464 + (135*4) = $1005.

And considering i have no blacklight issues whatsoever, no dead pixels, and freakin huge monitor at the 780 before taxes that i paid, i think my 2405fpw deserves a hug....

Oh wait, it's too big to get my arms around.

You made your point and yes I'm jealous of your 2405.

Trade?

😛

I'm gonna prolly wait to either buy this monitor or the 2005fpw, but i was wondering, don't they just look goofy being wider than the average monitor. I like the looks of the 2001fp, but i hear rave reviews of the 2005 and 2405. Can someone take some pictures of your setup so i can see what it really looks like in a room?
Thx

Like movies, once you get used to widescreen, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it, especially if you're a gamer.

I would trade you, but UPS and FedEx just banned the shipping of packages in the size required by the 2405fpw: Super-Duper-Extra-Large.

so there would be no way to get it to you, sorry

does anyone here know if this deal still hot ?? it says on the title that it ended next wednesday.

Thanks

That's not impossible by all means, however .... that's pretty unlikely this year 😉

I jumped on this about a month ago and can't say how pleased I am. This thing is absolutly gorgeous. Anyone who is debating the 2405FPW vs. 2005FPW, it's not really much of a comparison. It just needs to be seen before the money doesn't matter. This is coming from someone who was still using old Sony Trinitron CRT's because LCDs were too expensive for what you got. I needed bigger than 1024x1280 or 1600x1200. 1900x1200 is PERFECT for a display this size. This thing I intend to keep forever (or until it dies 🙂)

Buy it. Don't wait. Get it now.

Ok, I'm having a real hard time continuing to resist this so maybe someone in my situation who bit the bullet can answer a few questions:

1) I do *a lot* of photo editing on my system. I'm running a calibrated (via Monaco Optix) 21" Sony 520PS @ 1600x1200 and have resisted LCDs largely due to the color accuracy, off-angle viewing, etc issues. Can anyone who does a lot of photo editing or other high accuracy color work comment on the suitability of the 2405 for this?

2) I have (embarrased) a rather old Radeon 8500 64Mb card which is fine for the games I play (UT through UT 2K4 mainly). At some point in the next year I'll be doing a full system upgrade so I'd like to avoid getting a new AGP card right now. I've not been able to determine if I could use this card with the 2405 over DVI. Comments? How bad is analog at 1900x1200?

BTW, I've read the various articles on PVA LCDs (which I believe this is) and it seems they are not the highest recommended for color accuracy. I'm looking for some real world experience.

Thanks!
