I personally prefer my 24" LCD for 90% of my computing including programming, audio/video, gaming, movies, internet, etc...

The only time I use my 20" CRT is when using Photoshop and working with pictures. I get a better real-world result.

I run Oblivion at a lowered resolution to enable more eye candy. To be honest I don't even notice the letterboxing.

Be sure you have enough room for the 24" too.

Well you are just a newb with monitors.

Clearly, your inability to even respond to any of my points shows that you simply want to reject what I have to say with no intellectual responses.

Meh you just don't know what you're talking about.

As for comparing apples versus apples, yes I am. If there are panels that look sharper or better than a 2405 or 2005, then that means there are better panels.

If you have only used or only use a 2405/2005, then sure you would think it's a great panel. Any panel is GOOD until you use a BETTER panel.

I know you are all deal-goers here, so a lot of you aren't going to have the "best" of everything, so I'm not wrong in saying it's a bad monitor.

It's a great deal, but just remember you pay for what you get.

*shrug* CNET seems to like the 2405FPW... User opinions seem to agree with its quality as well.. But I guess all these people don't know what good image quality is right? I mean, the evil Dell monitor is TRICKING THEIR FEEBLE LITTLE MINDS into THINKING they're seeing good quality!! Ahh! Wheres the valiant ViewSonic monitor on its trusty white steed to save these poor people from the wicked grasp of DELL! *rolls eyes*

I'm seriously considering a Westinghouse 37" if it goes on sale again for the price it was before, $1100. Its a 1080P display. Before that I was thinking that I'd wait for the 2407 to make sure and get HDMI/HDCP since Windows Vista will need it. I'm still not sure what I want, I just know that I want a big wide LCD screen with a high resolution :)

DLeRium, you need to understand the difference between total crap, which is what you're trying to make it sound like the Dell monitors are, and a good but not perfect product that is equal (and possibly superior) to its price. Are there better monitors than the Dell's in each size range? Yes. Does that make the Dell's crap? No, especially when you understand that to get noticably better quality you'll have to spend hundreds more in the 20-24" sizes. In the 24" range in particular you'd have a hard time finding any other option within 10% (maybe even 25%) of the price of the Dell, and the Dell is going to probably be better quality than whatever monitor that is.

I have owned many different Dell LCDs, and in my own use/experience, they perform quite favorably to every other monitor that I've seen, which includes Apple Cinema Displays, Trinitron CRTs, and a host of other displays.

If money was no object, would I pick Dell for my monitors? Almost certainly not (with the exception of perhaps their 30", which I would need to compare to the Apple and any others before choosing). If I have any sort of a budget, though, guess what brand will be probably the first one I consider?

Wasn't it CNET who cut and paste the same review for something like 40 items and at the end of the day half of them didn't make sense?

It seems that Dell has fixed the 2007fpw banding issues and are replacing the faulty ones, so a fix for the 2407 should not take too long.

They're replacing both the 2007 and 2407 monitors now with new firmware (A02).

Dell Forum Link

They ask for an order number - I wonder if they'd replace a monitor bought at Costco (since you wouldn't have a Dell order #)

Anyone here know about the Dell Order # thing?

I got in on the 5150 Hot Deal a bit back that came with the 20" for ~650 - I just put the order number for that. Still no answer from anyone at Dell about a Costco-purchased monitor.

Yes, I've seen posts from those who have on other forums. Some have been using the 42" one as well.
Heres a quote from SD:
"I just played some unreal tournament, WOW!
This is a sweet monitor."
Here's a pic from SD (I think this is the 42") where the guy is using the 42" as a TV:

And one from a guy using it for his computer (looks like he's playing World of Warcraft on it):

To those who replied to my post, I'm sorry I didn't make it more clear, but I was asking what 20" or 24" monitors would be better than what Dell has to offer. Because douche bag still has yet to offer anything better in that range. Possibly because there is none. The superior panels only come in 17" and 19" ranges. Now he can go ahead and insult me because he thinks I care what Dell's LCD's offer as opposed to others, but in reality, I'm only paying attention to this thread because he's an asshole. Douche can assume that I'm the "newb" and I'm offended by his insulting the panel, but in reality I'm insulted because he insists on making his opinion known when it is half common knowledge and half idiocy. He repeats himself over and over and over, yet nobody cares what he has to say. He thinks we all worship Dell, but in reality, we want a lot of pixels for a decent price. we're not the ones that are anal and have to go burn everyone at the steak because they're using inferior products. Maybe douche needs to go back and reread what he wrote and see how much of a douche he really was for no reason.

And then, maybe mods can enforce this part of the rules:

No thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread.

What does HDCP provide? Is it necessary so that you'll be able to watch copy protected material in the future?

I have a 2405 that I enjoy immensely. Does the 2407 offer a significant improvement?

Got mine earlier this week for $695 off of dell. Researched what I could and it seems some people have gone off on a holy crusade against this lcd but the more you look the more they just sound shrill. Its due in mon or tues and i cant wait.

in defense of DLeRium who seems to be getting a lot of hate!

i'm in the market for a 24" widescreen and naturally looked at this and the samsung 244T

i found a pretty good forum at http://www.widescreengamingforum.com that talks about a lot of these monitors (i assume most of you are gamers).

It seems like the 2407 (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3240 [warning it's a huge ass post]) has some issues with color banding and the 244T has input lag issues (terrible for FPS). Of course, some ppl say they have no problems and some say these both suck. Since i'll be upgrading to a new vid card and monitor (at least a 1k investment [i was planning on 2407 + 1900xt]), i'm personally going to wait for the next gen. Also, if you have an ati card, it seems to have problems with fixed aspect scaling (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3460)

dlr made no sense, all he kept saying was if you like dell you are a monitor noob.

Waiting for "next gen" to cure problems is stupid. 2407 and the sammie are relatively new. 2405 was around for almost 2yrs... you're looking at a loooong wait.

I got it from costco knowing i can return it whenever i wanted.
So far I really love the new monitor(rev2). No lag, no banding.

Yeah I bought one of these, had it a couple of weeks. Fantastic monitor, loads of inputs, great for gaming and worth every penny. I've not seen a cripser monitor, and I have checked out apple's and other high end manufacturer's products.

I'd give it a 9/10.
