OK, I don't get it, I read raving reviews about DLP-Projectors and we have such a "DLP" projector at work. The Dell 2200MP and I have to say it sucked majorly in the color/contrast department. Could it be because we hoooked it up thru normal Analog VGA(just the normal connector that every videocard has) connector?

Misread that the first time around...

DB15 VGA should be fine, did you calibrate the projector?

Its very cheap, what did you expect it to be as good as the 5-6k DLP projectors?

Have you adjusted the display settings? Are you turning out the lights/covering windows?

Did you focus it?

Turn the lights out?

Project it on a screen?

Run it a resolution it could handle?

Yep.

Nope, just on a plain white wall.

Yes, had it on 800x600 and 1024x768. We watched a DVD.

DLP doesn't really shine unless fed a pure digital signal via DVI. The next best thing would be a component video connection.

And it's not so much DLP itself that kicks ass it's the good implementation of DLP in units from Samsung and Infocus that have people raving. The Infocus X1 projector and Samsung tabletop DLP projection TV both include Faroudja deinterlacers which greatly improve picture quality.

He's using VGA, why would he want to use either component or s-video?

The only real upgrade would be DVI.

You fell for the ATOT "goodness" effect. I've seen and heard many things on these forums that people have just raved about and been entirely disappointed in most of them. Don't fall for it again. :D;)

There are 2 different type of DLP projectors. 1-Chip DLP and 3-Chip DLP. Huge difference between the 1-Chip vs. 3-Chip in terms of image quality and brightness. The "raving" review you get is probably based on products using the 3-chip DLP.

VGA has much better bandwidth than component video or why else would monitors use VGA rather than component

DVI > VGA > component > S-video > composite

I dont even think component can even display 1080p while VGA can do much better than that

Be more specific on the problems you are having. Did you try running it in it's Movie Mode (lower brightness, better color/contrast)? The contrast of the 2200MP is near the top of the class as far as affordable DLP projectors go.
