Dell 22-inch widescreen... new but nothing new.

Coming soon to North America

Already available in Australia

The Dell Australian site shows that the 22-incher is in the "E" line. Clearly marked as non-Ultrasharp. It has the same basic specs as all the other 22-inch widescreen TN panels out there.

The 22-inch widescreen size is a nice "good enough" compromise: It has almost the same height as a 5:4 19-inch monitor, so it allows for added width without cutting on height.

It was inevitable that Dell would come out with a 22-inch widescreen, but I was hoping they would wait until a 8-bit panel is available.

Would anybody know about anything in the pipeline regarding, say, a S-IPS or S-PVA 22-inch panel?

Also, the reported price of $US 560 makes no sense. It will have to be priced much lower, especially being part of the "E" line. On the Australian web site, it sells for less than the higher-quality (but smaller) 2007WFP.

Still, this monitor is good news. Because of Dell's great return policy, one can order it, try it, and return it at no expense if not satisfied. Also, in combination with the upcoming 27-inch Dell widescreen, it should help drive down the price of the 2407.

Is this new viewsonic the same as the VX2025, except 22inches? The VX2025 is a nice, affordable monitor, it would be nice if there were 22inch version...

Hmm, I wonder how this will compare to BenQ's new 22' model. I'll be in the market come this Jan./Feb.

Not the same at all. The new Viewsonic 22-inch uses a completly different (and less refined) panel technology.

27''? Any link for that.. ?
I'm in search of a big monitor and a 27'' especially if it supports hardware scaling and has component outputs (which the 30'' monitors don't have) will really interest me...

The LG L226WT is coming out next month and is anticipated for it's 5ms response time and 3000:1 contrast ratio. Of course it's a TN panel like the other 22', so I'll probably be passing on it anyways.

Aye, I just saw this deal too. I still have my 10% off spam sign-up coupon, so I'd love to know if this is worth the upgrade from a 1.5 year old 17". I like my current one fine, but since I waste so much of my life infront of it, why not waste it with more style;).

In fact, it might be because of the relentless price drop of LCD monitors that TN panels are becoming more prevalent: The new 22-inch widescreen are all TN panels. The buzzwords are 5 ms and $ 299...That's all.

There are rumors that AU Optronics is working on a P-MVA 22-inch panel, and they are the only major panel maufacturer not having released a 22 incher. I was hoping for a LG-Philips S-IPS, but no, they have gone TN with their new panel too. Price seems to be driving the competition for this screen size.

Is there a TN 23 or 24 inch 1920x1200 panel in the works somewhere? I would not bet against it.

Please, don't forget to keep us posted. I am interested too, but too unsure about viewing angles.

I am going to try to slightly change the thread title, because the monitor is no longer "Coming Soon"

hi. I just wanted to say i received my dell 22 inch monitor. I have just fired it up (not optimized yet)

So far the thing is beautiful...no dead pixels. The stand is rock steady (a big plus for dell)

the thing has: a made in china sticker ...can tilt up 21 degrees and down 4 degrees.

So far i have not found anything to make my computer recognize the type of monitor it is.
All the dell disk does, so far, is tell you how to move your slider to the optimum resolution for the monitor. :)

Edit:

Plug and Play Capability
You can install the monitor in any Plug and Play-compatible system. The monitor automatically provides the computer system with its Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) using Display Data Channel (DDC) protocols so that the system can configure itself and optimize the monitor settings. If desired, you can select different settings, but in most cases monitor installation is automatic.

And you got it for $299 CAD? That sounds like a real good price for a 22".
Unfortunately, I refuse to buy a TN panel, so will continue to stick to CRTs in the meantime.

$341 cdn including taxes :)

I won't be able to put it through the real paces until i get a system able to power the resolution properly.

But so far, i am more impressed than i thought i would be. :)

I ordered one for the exact same price but I am still waiting for it to arrive. Can you tell me, does it scale the lower resolutions (4:3) in 1 to 1 or does it stretch it to fit?

I have a Samsung 225BW and a Dell 21` trinitron CRT. Both are great, u guys cry way to much about TN panels. the only major difference i've seen between the two is the contrast ratio and darker blacks on the CRT. as for viewing angle its fine on the LCD.
