ummmm, actually the panels are the same they don't use cheaper panels it just happens to be the 2407WFP and 2007WFP have banding issues the 2005FPW/2405FPW had backlight bleeding issues on my 1st replacement I had the perfect monitor no dead pixels no visable backlight bleeding.

edit: I ran the gradlin-v0.2-fs on my 2005FPW how is it suppost to look?

they do use cheaper panels on the 2407 as it is not a true 8-bit panel like the apple ones.

gradlin is suppose to be smooth all the way across

Yeah, they use the newer version of the Samsung one from the 2405. If I'm not mistaken, its been proven time and time again that it is a true 8 bit panel as well.

Its the electronics they use that screws things up.

What's the current status of the Dell 2407WFP?

Have a lot of the issues now been resolved or do they still exist?

AFAIK no A02 revisions have banding (duplicate bands of color) in Desktop mode. The OP is speaking about another effect. If you calibrate your monitor it won't be nearly as bad (the unlinearity and the lineyness), whereas if you actually had banding, it would still have sharp transitions.

I have been searching these forums and googling the web, but only have a fragmented understanding of this monitor.

Could you summarize problems with this monitor if purchased brand new from Dell now?

Just to give my 2 cents. I just bought a 2407 and it either doesnt have any banding issues or I have no idea what a banding issue is, do not know what to look for and simply feel the monitor looks great. Added bonus, not a single dead pixel either. The uniformity even looks great, basically I feel like I just won the lottery, this thing is simply stunning ... and HUGE.

my 2 cents as well.

I own a NEC 20WMGX2 and recently tested out an Dell 2007WFP Revision A02.

The banding was not present at all on the Dell and was the same as my NEC.

So the 2007WFP A02 are all good.

dell has always worked like this. they sell on their warranty, not their QC. in this case it finally seems to be biting them in the ass tho.

apparently it's cheaper to just replace things than make sure they work in the first place.
